Simulating w/Actual Current Roster? Players staying out of game

Sorry I couldn't think of a better title that captured what I want to ask. This is Series X.

I like simulating current games and seeing who madden thinks will win in the simulation. For example, I want to sim todays Ravens Steelers game. I not only want the current rosters, but also the current actual lineup. What I mean is, I want to sim the game without Lamar Jackson playing because they are resting him today.

So what I will do choose simulation (don't pick a team) but when the game starts I go in (by changing the team I'm controlling to Ravens) and adjust the roster and remove the player that is actually sitting in the game. For this game it would be Jackson and every other player they are sitting. I just manually take them out of the lineup and drop them down the depth chart so they come out. I then switch back to neutral so I'm controlling neither team and go back and let the game sim while watching.

The problem is, they seem to come out for a few plays or a quarter, then the CPU puts them back in. It's like the AI is like "WTF is Jackson sitting for when he's healthy" and then overrides the moves I had made and restores the guys who should be playing.

What am I doing wrong here? Is there a better way to do this to ensure the CPU doesn't override the depth chart adjustments I've made? Any help is appreciated.
