    NHL 2K8 Franchise Mode Freezes

The NHL 2K8 Editor can now fix the most common types of Franchise-mode freezes. In the menu bar at the top of the editor window, open the Repair menu, and run all of the actions under that menu. Make sure to back up your original save file first in case something goes wrong.

(I've edited this post to remove outdated information. Since posting the original thread, I've learned how to avoid Franchise-mode freezes altogether. The main thing is to avoid moving players off of the historical teams. If historical players find their way into the free-agent list or onto a non-historical roster, they will cause all kinds of problems.

You can still discuss Franchise-mode freezes in this thread. Be sure to attach any relevant save files to your posts.)

Re: NHL 2K8 Franchise Mode Freezes

Sorry to corpse this thread, but I'm a bit desperate. My save keeps crashing at December 9th, 2009. I've already used the editor and done all the repair functions, and even used the batch command to set all the rosters at 12-6-2. None of these worked- I thought the RFA function would fix it (I've had a save end at December 8th 2009 as well) but it seems to have not worked. Any advice would be appreciated. This is on the base roster, I should add.

Try copy pasting the save then doing the editor fixes on the copied file. If that doesn't work you've probably got a corrupt save that cannot be fixed.

I'm guessing this can't be fixed, but I might be able to take a quick look if you post the file. The game can get badly broken sometimes when the CPU tries to adjust rosters.

        Questions:
        Is it a PS3 or 360 save?
        Were injuries turned on?
How many seasons in were you?

Hey, sorry for the no response- I had already basically tried the other guy's solution before I posted which left me pretty much feeling like I'd done all I could do. I'll see if I still have the file on hand.

For the record, this is actually an RPCS3 save, but the previous save I had years ago that I mentioned was on actual PS3 hardware. Injuries were turned on and it was the third season.

It's just personally super frustrating to me; I understand the absolute adoration 2K8's gameplay gets but it's been a decade since I had a franchise mode save go further than two and a half seasons and I wish I could like, actually engage with it.

Re: NHL 2K8 Franchise Mode Freezes

Just thought of adding this here for future reference, as I'm not sure it's been brought up anywhere else.

If for some reason a save file can't be repaired, the last resort is exporting it to a spreadsheet, re-importing the spreadsheet into a Roster save, and starting a new Franchise from that save. You can change the start year of the franchise in the editor.

            Downsides:
            1. You lose player stats and contract data.
            2. You have to restart the current season.
            3. The spreadsheet has to be manually edited, because a roster save can only hold so many players, with limits on each type. I'd sort the spreadsheet by team first, then by overall rating to make it easy to delete and edit lower-overall players without depleting the NHL rosters.

Never import directly into a Franchise or Season save. This will break things even more.
