A 50 could be special if the things next to it weren't 49 and 48. How about giving Jaylen a 32 for some of his dunks? Better yet, what would a standard dunk be (just going up and dropping it in)? Would a layup get a score? I want to know why the judges don't look back at what was a 50 back in the day (or even a few years back), and put everything on a comparative scale. It diminishes the great ones by a bunch.

For me 50 is a Carter-like dunk and that dunk jeebs linked to actually looks kind of sad

"Oh but nobody is Vince Carter", well that's too bad, I don't grade in a curve.

Was thinking whether it would be if they hire (created?) some professional judges. Don't know how that can come about, and I know everyone bitches and moans about Olympic judges, but my sense is that that would be better to the "everything is a 47 and above" thing we have now.

I stopped watching after both 3pt contests since that’s usually been the best event of the night before the Dunk Contest puts everyone to sleep as usual.

And judging from these posts, I see folks weren’t satisfied yet again. Why do ya’ll keep watching when the result is still the same every year? Lol ya’ll don’t get tired of doing that?

And then ya’ll gonna watch and complain about the All Star Game when they do the same thing they always do, which is BS thru most of the game until the 4th and then maybe try hard 🥱

          1) Maybe if we complain hard enough they'll change something. Add a trampoline, lower the rim, use a smaller ball, allow more non-NBA players... but even if those ridiculous things don't happen, grade them with a score they deserve so they push more toward a real 50.

          2) The Aaron Gordon and Zach Lavine dunk contest was the best duo I've seen, which is relatively recent. They've done it before, so they can do it again.

          3) If it doesn't come back to form, diminish its status and put it before the three-point contest, which is significantly more exciting with the amount of good shooters in the league these days.

I mean, I didn't watch the dunk contest (or any contest for that matter ), I saw the highlights. Did they had Magic going out to the court yelling "the dunk contest is back!"?

Sure, it’s not serious in the grand scheme but those celebs/players from other leagues are going to be out there playing like they have something to prove. Which is understandable because if I got invited to play, imma ball out like I’m trying to get to the league even though I know that won’t happen lol.
It not being serious is why I would think the injury risk is higher. It isn't serious so you probably aren't going to stretch like you should and whatnot, then you get caught in the moment trying to show out.

But its February. If this was summer you wouldn't see NFL players

I enjoyed it last year. Mac made it worth watching. This year I definitely could of gone without. I've learned my lesson with the All star game though I'm not watching it.

I have no problem with the ASG itself, it's still the most entertaining of all the major ASGs out there (I know the bar is low).

The thing which has hurt the asg a bit is that the game is more shooting focused over dunking. Past ASGs you'd be guaranteed a night of everyone just doing their best solo dunks and some 2 on 0 or 3 on 0 fast breaks with alley oops. We still get that today, but it's much more about just watching guys shooting 3s. The entire game is just one big highlight reel anyways.

Probably very little that can actually be done to improve if the players themselves don't care.

Even some crazy gimmick like a 3 on 3 tournament where you have 4 teams of 6, would guys try as much then too? 3 games where the first 2 are just 12 min games and game 3 is two 12 minute "halves" between the two winners? But that also means whoever loses might play several minutes all weekend and that's it.

These ASG courts are utter nonsense. I don't want heat maps where players are or alien green highlights on the court. The amount on CGI stuff on court is effectively bloatware to me and visually unappealing.

Can I get a HUD that filters all this off? I'm an old fogey I guess, what do I know...

Silver basically confirms expansion is coming.

2 teams seems most likely, something happening once the NBA negotiates a new tv deal (which expires after next season).

This summer could be very interesting for that. I'd imagine they're not going into next season still looking for a tv deal, and once that gets resolved, expansion is definitely next.

I've said it for years, it's Seattle/Vegas for sure. Those fans must be excited for sure hearing Silver reiterate it again. Minny I'd say moves to the east.

LeBron claims the Warriors rumors didn't get very far and he never heard about it until the fans did........sounds believable.

I miss the all star games of yesterday where we had things like "the Laker boy gonna try to take everyone one-on-one."

The reason we watch is to see stars go head to head. I don't want to see teams exchange wide open 3s with the occasional lob and no defense. I want to watch mini one on one battles between the best basketball players in the world.

I don't think there's a solution because its a mindset more than rules or anything like that.

We're going over 200 each this year.

For reference, 2018 is the only time both teams had over 180.

Hmm, I would've thought for sure you would declare MLB as having the most entertaining one. Though I suppose competition is not the only idea of entertainment, and the alley-oops and long three-pointers from the NBA ASG can offset that.
