    MLB Commentary

Did SDS say they improved main commentary? I am hearing exactly same lines as last year and I am just a few games in to franchise. They still don't announce names of many players who are in the base roster. I am surprised!

Is that Singleton working with the minor league guy? I thought the minor league announcer was going to work alone.

I miss the MLB Network crew. Especially Matt Vasgersian. He is the king of MLB The Show commentary. Absolutely the gold standard.

No doubt he's great in real life but his video game voicing, compared to Boog, is stiff and dry. Boog's style is perfect for video gaming. He has sense of urgency that you never felt with Vasgersian. But Matt was still more than competent and wouldn't bother me if he ever did return. The real problem for me, even now, the color commentary sidekick, none of them have been worthy of working in a video game booth with Vasgersian or Boog. Not Hudler, not Karros, not Lyons, not Plesac, not DeRo, not Singleton. Definitely not Heide. Maybe Soup, maybe. I really wasn't sure about Harold Reynolds. I would have liked to seen him stay longer than one-and-done.

The minor league guy is working alone. I like the concept but he needs a little more energy in his presentation at key moments, but maybe that's what it is like in minors?

There have been instances where I swore Gellman sounded like he was in conversation with another commentator. He must be talking to himself. Very surreal.

I haven't played full game with him...just from critical situations.

I've played a half dozen Play Now friendlies Syracuse versus the Rumble Ponies to get a better feel for the Met prospects. Spring Training does no justice to non-40 man roster guys.

And if Singleton isn't working with Gellman, then the sound editing dev did a terrible job. Gellman sounds like a schizo psychopath if he's having a pleasant conversation between he himself and him.

Sorry for harping on the MiLB commentary but been playing a lot of minors games last couple days. Gellman needs to get in the studio and get to work. I was playing Syracuse versus Norfolk and he knows who Diego Castillo is (enough to call him by name) but not Felix Bautista? Not bloody well likely. Waay too many guys he can only identify by number and position. I play with MLB commentary on for one game a week, I'll have to play with MiLB commentary on one game a month.

Matt Vasgersian, Dave Campbell and Rex Hudler are the best commentary team for any sports game. Only ones that come close are Dan Stevens and Peter O'Keefe from the NFL 2K series.

They should have left in all the old commentators as different broadcast crews.

Exactly! That’s what I love about NBA 2k…the fact that there are numerous commentary crews/combinations.

This isn’t the only reason but it’s one of them why I haven’t bought the game. I started this series with 07 and Matty V is the Show for me.

New guys aren’t bad in the game, I just prefer Matty V.

Like you wonder if they did something different when recording these guys as compared to Matty V. I think I remember they said they actually had them record and pulled real life recordings of games for the new guys.

Probably most of Matty V’s gameplay commentary was done years ago when he started. And just did some adding and updating through the years. So now they brought in these guys and there is more life to the announcers in big moments. But you wonder if they would have brought in Matty V. Into the studios to basically redo or refresh, if it would have been better and had more variable levels. Or at least the same thing the new announcers did, if it would have been better.
