    Fake players on rosters?

Hey all - if this has been posted elsewhere, please feel free to delete.

I was reading an article on The Athletic from late June about EA finalizing the rosters, and noticed something that I hadn't seen elsewhere:

"Players who opted in but were not selected to be in the game at launch could still make the game in later roster updates if they make an impact during the season. EA Sports built in some flexibility by not selecting 85 real players per team for launch. Walk-ons and late-enrolling freshmen in particular could make surprise impacts this fall; if so, they could be added to the game and then receive their payment for participation."

If there aren't 85 real players per team, that almost certainly means either fake players or intentionally smaller roster sizes for some teams.

I hadn't thought about it before, but I guess it makes sense. They probably wouldn't want to remove kids that had previously been in the game, and fake players/empty spots would be the only way to add players that weren't expected to be playing.

Iโ€™m sure each roster will have 85 players on it between the real and generated players. This is a good thing because like you said, they wonโ€™t want to drop guys, but now they can add in freshmen who werenโ€™t able to opt in initially.

So if we canโ€™t edit names, then most of us are at a stand still to start dynasties with accurate rosters if true.

Rosters would never be 100% accurate because of roster size limits and opt outs. But youโ€™ll probably have every opt-in on the two and usually three deep.

Iโ€™ll bang the drum about customization all day (and have!) but this is the one thing I canโ€™t blame EA for.

In real life, teams have upwards of 130 players. Itโ€™ll never be accurate to real life. But it will likely be accurate to 99% of who youโ€™ll see on Saturdayโ€™s (Fridays, Wednesdays, whatever days) this fall.

It technically could be accurate if all 85 Scholarship players opt in per team. Likely will never happen though. From the begining we were told that has been EA's goal according to Matt Brown.

Updates later on would add and remove players based on what is happening in real life.

Personally what I think they should do is if a walk on has opted in just add them instead of using a generic player to start. Just my personal opinion though.

The problem with that is incoming freshmen canโ€™t opt in yet.

We've already seen in some of the videos that true freshman can be in the game. If they are going to summer workouts then they are officially enrolled and have a school email. That's all they need to opt in. Problem is some of these kids don't know how to sign up or where to go to sign up. Early enrollees have a far greater shot at being in at launch though.

Early enrollees yeah. I donโ€™t know what percentage of freshmen are early enrollees though.

They aren't there anymore, but they posted a series of tweets showing 73 of their players with the caption "They're in the game". With a combination of real photos and self-made game avatars.

I was gonna say, considering tomorrow is the official "launch roster reveal" day, I would imagine EA wouldn't like that. Sounds like Bowling Green jumped the gun.

It was a few weeks ago when they tweeted it. There weren't any ratings or anything. Just headshots, name, and number.

Ah that makes more sense. Odd that they'd pull those down
