Kids today won't recall the days of "RB #7"

NIL deals that made EA College Football possible erases a bygone era of an NCAA Football launch.

Playing games with "RB #7" and "QB #10" while waiting for a community of nerds here to individually name each player and make their roster file available for download to a memory card.

    *takes long drag*

    Those were the days... lol

Waiting 3 weeks to start a real dynasty was something special. Wait for the game release, then wait again to play it fully.

Seems like there always a reason why dynasties canโ€™t be started when the game releases.

How about mailing a memory card to someone to get the rosters. Or trying to get the damn Sharkport to connect to download rosters.

Now they'll see DeSean Marion, white cornerback, #67. And this time they won't be able to do anything about it.

I loved these days. Starting with the #7 HB or whatever and eventually seeing the game fill up with named players. It was so satisfying.

Never saw a reason to wait to start a dynasty in the NCAA games. But that's just me. I would always start my dynasty on day 1.

Forgot to add he was a 5 star from Dallas who signed with Bowling Green and had one of 4 defensive touchdowns scored in the country his freshman year.

Same. I always started at a small school, so I just auto-generated names since I wasn't ever gonna see or play those top guys anyway. Within 3-4 seasons it's all generated guys mainly anyway.

Not only did we have to wait on names, but we couldn't edit attributes either. Only gear. I used to give all of my players black ankle tape because the black cleats were in style back then lol.

I still can't believe I mailed a memory card to someone running a site called GeekRosters. The early internet was something else.

I remember getting the pre-season magazines and entering them into each team. A buddy and I would take turns and get it done in one night so we could play with real names right away. I remember we had a debate, truly a debate, not a fight or disagreement, on if we should go with "Woodrow Dantzler" or "Woody Dantzler" b/c if we wanted to be authentic, the name would be "Woodrow", but I like "Woody" better. Coin toss decided it. It was "Woodrow" in the end.

I remember one year I hooked up the entire USF offensive line and QB, at the time, Pat Julmiste with the rosters on PS2 when I was working in the Athletic program, everyone had their black memory cards lol

Woody Dantzler and Eric Crouch. They were the top rated QB's in that game. So, whenever you exported your draft class into Madden, they would always be the top 2 QB's taken in the draft despite the fact that in real life Dantzler went undrafted and Crouch was drafted in like the 7th round as a WR.

YES! They had great speed, both played in option-based offenses at the time, they were the men amongst the boys at that time.
