Season 1 Playoffs
The Cali Championship Hoops playoffs are set to begin, promising thrilling basketball action between eight of the top teams in the league. With a single loss spelling the end of the season, every team must bring their best.
Here's an in-depth look at each first-round matchup:
#8 Anaheim Admirals (9-13) at #1 Sacramento Stallions (17-5)
The Stallions, led by MVP candidate Dorell Kabal, are the top seed in the playoffs, boasting an impressive 17-5 record. Kabal's dominance in the paint, with a league-leading .810 FG% and 9.4 rebounds per game, makes Sacramento a formidable opponent. They will leverage their balanced offense and stout defense to overpower the Admirals. Anaheim, the eighth seed, will rely heavily on Kirk Tinsley, the league’s top 3-point shooter with a .626 percentage. To compete with Sacramento, the Admirals must exploit Tinsley’s shooting prowess and create opportunities from the perimeter. Despite the Admirals’ long-range threat, the Stallions' inside game and overall depth make them the clear favorites in this matchup.
#5 San Diego Sabrewolves (12-10) at #4 San Francisco Knights (12-10)
The battle between the Sabrewolves and Knights is set to be an even and thrilling contest. San Diego will look to Donnell Nash, their playmaker who averages 7.0 assists per game, to orchestrate their offense. Nash’s ability to distribute the ball effectively and create scoring opportunities will be crucial for the Sabrewolves. On the other hand, the Knights will rely on the versatile Munir Kassa, February’s Northern Cali Player of the Month, who plays a pivotal role with his all-around contributions. Kassa's leadership and ability to control the game’s tempo will be key to San Francisco's strategy. The Knights’ home-court advantage and Kassa’s versatility give them a slight edge, but this matchup could go either way.
#7 California Reds (11-11) at #2 Los Angeles Dynamics (16-6)
The Dynamics, the second seed with a 16-6 record, are set to face the seventh-seeded Reds, who finished the regular season at 11-11. The Dynamics boast a strong defense anchored by Mo Alexander, who leads the league with 2.9 blocks per game and is a force on both ends of the court. Jack McMichael Jr. is an MVP contender and one of the top shooters in the league. Los Angeles will aim to control the game through their superior defense and balanced inside-outside attack. The California Reds will depend heavily on Lamar Anderson, the league’s top scorer with 25.0 points per game. Anderson’s ability to take over games and lead his team in scoring will be crucial for the Reds to pull off an upset. However, the Reds are heading into the playoffs on a nine-game losing streak, tied for a league record, adding pressure to turn things around. While the Dynamics are favored due to their consistent performance and defensive prowess, Anderson's scoring capability ensures this will be a fiercely contested game.
#6 Golden State Enterprise (11-11) at #3 Long Beach Vipers (13-9)
The Enterprise and Vipers are set for an intriguing first-round matchup. The Vipers will lean on the experience and scoring ability of Josh Parks, a reliable guard in clutch situations. Parks’ leadership and ability to score in critical moments will be vital for Long Beach’s success. Golden State will rely on their defensive stalwart DeAnte Gray, who has a strong +/- rating and influences the game’s pace. The Enterprise must focus on tough defense, controlling the boards, and efficient ball movement to challenge the Vipers. While Long Beach’s balanced attack and depth give them the upper hand, the Enterprise’s defense could turn this into a tightly contested game. Both teams will need to execute their strategies flawlessly to advance to the next round.Last edited by RayLenearl; 05-29-2024, 04:19 PM.Comment

New Directions: San Jose & SD Strykers Part Ways with Coaching Staffs
In a dramatic turn of events following the conclusion of the inaugural Cali Championship Hoops regular season, two teams have made bold moves by parting ways with their coaching staff. The San Jose Tigersharks and the San Diego Strykers have both announced the dismissal of key personnel, signaling a significant overhaul as they gear up for Season 2.
The San Jose Tigersharks have officially relieved Head Coach Tyson McGuire and Assistant Head Coach Lenny Howard of their duties. The decision comes on the heels of a challenging season where the team struggled to find consistency, finishing with an 8-14 record and a 10th-place standing. Despite flashes of competitive brilliance, the team's inability to sustain momentum led management to make these sweeping changes.
Team governor Teddy Edwards explained, "We appreciate the efforts of Tyson and Lenny, but we believe it's time for a new direction. Our goal is to build a championship-contending team, and these changes are the first step towards achieving that goal."
In a similar move, the San Diego Strykers have terminated the contracts of Head Coach Jake Thomas and Assistant Head Coach Bryce Jones. The Strykers concluded their season with a 9-13 record, narrowly missing the playoffs and finishing in 9th place. Despite showing promise, the team ultimately fell short of expectations, prompting the front office to make these coaching changes.
General Manager Johnnie Mullin commented, "Jake and Bryce have been valuable members of our organization, and we're grateful for their hard work and dedication. However, we didn't achieve the results we aimed for this season. We're committed to finding new leadership that will help us reach our full potential and bring success to the Strykers."

The 4-seed San Francisco Knights (13-10) extended their regular season dominance over the 5-seed San Diego Sabrewolves (12-11), earning a hard-fought win in the opening round of the playoffs. Alton Dawkins was stellar as well, contributing 19 points, two rebounds, and two assists. The Reds struggled to find their offensive rhythm, shooting a pedestrian 56% from the field as a team. Lamar Anderson kept them afloat with 28 points and nine assists, but he lacked substantial support from his teammates. Kirk Barnes chipped in 13 points and five assists, while Donnie Frazier added seven points and seven rebounds. For the Dynamics, a balanced scoring attack proved pivotal, with three players reaching double figures. Los Angeles will look to ride this momentum in their quest for a championship, while California will likely undergo a coaching staff overhaul.

Kirk Tinsley led the way, draining all eight of his attempts to finish with 20 points. Rex Holland chipped in 16 points, while Talen Parish knocked down four triples off the bench for 12 points. Martin McCloud also reached double figures with 12 points. The Stallions dominated the interior, outscoring the Admirals 48-28 in the paint.

Season 2 Preview
Kabal Leads Defending Champ Stallions into Season 2
The buzz around Cali Championship Hoops’ second season centers on one burning question: Can anyone dethrone Dorell Kabal and the Sacramento Stallions? Fresh off their inaugural championship, the Stallions return with league MVP Kabal—an elite 90 overall player—leading the charge. Known for his unmatched efficiency and leadership, Kabal is coming off a dominant season where he averaged a league-best 9.4 rebounds per game and posted a staggering 81% field goal percentage.
Sacramento’s championship-winning core remains intact, with sharpshooting guard Frank Hackett and playmaker A.J. Cox returning alongside Kabal. Adding rookie sensation George Madsen (82 overall) to this mix gives the Stallions a blend of championship pedigree and youthful energy. The road to the title still runs through Sacramento.
New Dynasty Rising in San Diego?
If there’s one team ready to challenge Sacramento’s throne, it’s the revamped San Diego Strykers. Following a disappointing 9-13 campaign last season, the Strykers completely retooled their roster. Their headline acquisition, A.J. Hinton (from Long Beach), brings an all-around game that transforms the team into instant contenders.
The additions of three-point sniper DeAnte Gray (formerly with Golden State) and veteran point guard Ray Gambino (from Fresno) provide depth and experience. Rising star Adin Durmanenko (80 overall) rounds out what many analysts are calling the most complete starting five in the league. Head coach Jacob Underwood has emphasized defense and ball movement in training camp, signaling a strategic shift for San Diego.
Dynamics and Reds Load Up for Title Push
The Los Angeles Dynamics, fresh off a 16-6 season, aren’t ready to step aside. Their dynamic duo of Jack McMichael Jr. (89 overall) and reigning Defensive MVP Mo Alexander returns to terrorize opponents. Alexander made history last season by leading the league in steals, rebounds, and blocks—an unprecedented defensive triple crown.
Meanwhile, the California Reds look to overcome last season’s disappointment, which ended with a league-record 10-game losing streak. Led by Offensive Player of the Year Lamar Anderson (25 PPG), the Reds are a dark horse in the title race. Anderson’s ability to score in bunches is complemented by the sharpshooting of Mo Parks, who provides elite floor spacing. With their sights set on redemption, the Reds are eager to prove the doubters wrong.
Playoff Hopefuls Retool
The San Diego Sabrewolves (12-10 last season) have embraced a balanced approach, combining youth with veteran experience. Rookie sensation Wes Taylor joins the squad alongside seasoned center George Brooks (formerly of Oakland) and veteran point guard Kirk Barnes (formerly with California). The Sabrewolves’ versatility makes them a dangerous opponent for any team.
The Oakland Renegades are betting on a youth movement of their own. All-Star MVP Alonzo Reece remains the team’s centerpiece, while newcomers Andre Creek, Jamar Dean (from San Diego), and rookies Dante Garrett and Marvin Cardwell bring depth and athleticism. After last year’s 7-15 disappointment, Oakland is primed for a bounce-back season.
Bold Rebuilds: Long Beach and Fresno Go All-In on Rookies
The Long Beach Vipers made the boldest offseason moves by overhauling their roster with rookies. Towering center Phil Martin Jr. and athletic forward Jayden Moody (both 80 overall) headline this new core. Despite their inexperience, the Vipers’ raw talent and energy make them an unpredictable wildcard in the league.
In Fresno, the Mad Dogs are embracing a full rebuild around big man Cameron Barkley and top draft pick Gheorghe Stefan. Stefan, the Season 2 No. 1 overall pick, has drawn comparisons to a young Arvydas Sabonis for his blend of size, skill, and court vision.
Opening Week Showcase
Season 2 kicks off with compelling matchups across the league:
- California Reds vs. Los Angeles Dynamics:
Can Anderson’s scoring overcome Alexander’s defensive mastery?
- Sacramento Stallions vs. Oakland Renegades:
A championship celebration turns into an early test against a hungry Oakland squad.
- San Diego Strykers vs. Anaheim Admirals:
The Strykers’ revamped lineup debuts in front of a home crowd.
- San Diego Sabrewolves vs. Golden State Enterprise:

With established powers reloading and ambitious challengers emerging, Season 2 promises to elevate Cali Championship Hoops to new heights. The Stallions' title defense, the Strykers' star-studded makeover, and the league's growing parity set the stage for what could be a transformative season in the league's evolution.Last edited by RayLenearl; 01-04-2025, 09:13 PM.Comment
