    Coaching archetype question

Does the passive archetype perk for each skill tree activate once purchased, or does only your active archetype's passive perk work?

    Example:

If I am a recruiter archetype, I get the perk "Firm Handshakes - Extra XP for signing a recruit."

If I then unlock the Tactician Archetype for 10 CP, I get the perk, "winner - Extra XP for each win"

Are both now active? Or does only the recruiter passive perk work because it's my main one?

On the left side of the Coach Abilities screen under your coach's portrait, the game tells you what is your coach's active archetype perk.

Perks don't stack, only your active one is ever enabled.

Are you absolutely certain of this? Can you point me to where you saw that? I really want to make sure before I potentially waste points.

On the far left on the coach abilities screen. Whatever archetype you have spent the most points in becomes your primary archetype, and your primary archetype determines your active perk.

The two images below show a new head coach with a Tactician backstory. The first image is immediately after I bought Motivator and Recruiter; he's still got the Winner active perk from the Tactician tree. The moment I spent 10 points in Recruiter, his active perk changes to Firm Handshakes from the Recruiter tree.

You are allowed to unlock multiple ability trees to mould a coach with a diversified skill set, and in fact you should do this. But do be considerate with how you spend your points.

I’m a recruiter and have firm handshakes. If I unlock the one where I get more points for a win, do I not get the extra points for winning a game just because it shows the firm handshakes under my coaches picture? This stuff is confusing and EA did NOT do a good job explaining much of ANYthing with this game. Lol!

It shows you which perk you have on the screen so I think it’s awfully self explanatory. I think the only explanation needed is which will be your active perk (which is almost certainly the tree with the most points spent in it).

So, do I not get the extra points? If not, there's really not much of an incentive to open that perk tree or any others. Seems like I might as well invest everything I get into recruiting if that's going to be the only perk allowed to be active.

You don't get the points if the perk isn't active. You only get the benefit of the active perk.

Well, if we can't manually change which perk is active at any give time, then I see no reason to waste the points in other areas. I'll just max out recruiting. Glad I'm getting this cleared up before it's time to start on my SERIOUS dynasty after the patch.

The perk only decides what tasks gives you more xp. You still get the benefits of everything you buy in the other trees, most of which are hugely beneficial in building your team. All the perk does is increase how quickly your coach levels up.

You can earn extra xp from signing recruits and have great recruiting boosts for being a great recruiter while still boosting the ratings of your players as a tactician and motivating them to get bigger off-season boosts as well.

With my coach I went hard in recruiting since I love recruiting, but have since spent enough in tactician and motivator so that I can eventually unlock architect (I think that’s what it’s called) which will become my main tree.

It's just for the bonus coach XP. I'm not sure which coach archetype provides the best bonus XP. I imagine recruiting gives you quite a bit of bonus XP early on if you are building up a bad program because you'll have large recruiting classes and it gives bonus XP for each recruit signed. But later on, you'll have smaller ones. Regardless of the active archetype for bonus XP, you'll eventually get to level 50 so I wouldn't sweat it.
