Do you user catch?
Just something I’ve wondered regarding passing for some time now. Seems a good many folks in the creator space, when giving tips, reference user catching in some form even if it’s just toggling on and selecting the catch type. I wonder what the guys here do. I think because I don’t, it might explain some of the issues I’ve had and maybe others.44Yes0%24No0%20F-L-O-R-I-D-A! S-T-A-T-E! Florida State! Florida State! Florida State! Wooooo!Tags: None -
Re: Do you user catch?
I don't User catch. I let the AI receivers make the catch and then I take control after the catch."Dunks are tough, but when a 35 footer come rainin out the sky...it'll wire you up" -
Re: Do you user catch?
I very rarely switch to the player to move his positioning but I will tell him which catch to try if I need an adjustment from the default catch type.

Re: Do you user catch?
I select the catch type but never actually take control of the WR until after the catch.
Unless they've finally fixed it, if you don't manually select the catch type your WR will go for a RAC catch 100% of the time unless you do a high pass, then they will make an aggressive catch.
That's why I feel it is necessary to manually select the catch type since the CPU WRs don't have the same issue.

Re: Do you user catch?
The only user catch I do is user pick on defense. Otherwise as QB , I trust my teammate to do his job.Talk about things nobody cares.

Re: Do you user catch?
As a general rule to myself, I don't switch players while the ball is in the air on Offense or Defense. If I'm already controlling a LB or Safety on Defense, and I'm in position, I will attempt to catch the ball of course.Comment

Re: Do you user catch?
In general I try to limit my user input as it seems it only makes things even easier. I never user catch unless my QB (aka my terrible decision making) puts up a terrible pass and I feel I need to fight for the ball to prevent an obvious interception (I throw WAY too many picks already).
I never switch defenders to ball hawk user pick, no mater how tempting it is. I used to but found I get WAY too many interceptions if I do. I’ll try to user pick if they throw it at the LB I’m controlling, but I’m so bad as pass coverage that I’m almost never in position for a pick.
Kinda off topic, but I never hot route either. Again, it would make things too easy on offense and give me an unfair advantage vs the cpu as I can’t imagine they hot route. I just run my plays as they’re designed, so if I feel like a corner route or curl or Texas route, etc would beat the expected coverage, then I find a play with that route.Favorite Teams:

Do you user catch?
Well then in my experience they’re not very good at it as they have a lot of trouble moving the ball against me. Maybe it’s cuz they’re hot routing against my shell, which is rarely the same as my actual play call. Regardless, I can imagine that hot routing would trivialize offense for me (and I’m not even good at reading defenses).
EDIT: although now that I think it about it more, if the CPU QB goes thru the same animations while hot routing that a user QB does, then I don’t think they hot route vs me hardly at all as I almost never see their QB waving his arms around and pointing all over the place.Last edited by jello1717; 08-07-2024, 09:05 AM.Favorite Teams:

Re: Do you user catch?
With how the games are now designed....it's a must to me to user catch sometimes to fight for the ball....or you will find the game extremely frustrating.Originally posted by NoleFanJust something I’ve wondered regarding passing for some time now. User skill is demanded on EA sports games to be successful even vs the CPU on CFB 25.
I even switch on defense now because if I don't....it can be futile to play defense.
And there is nothing wrong with it "Sim" nation. It's fun....and fun is the #1 goal and what keeps me playing video games. So let go of old habits and traditions if you want to have more fun with CFB 25.
User the WR if you must to sometimes have the proper catch type....and guess what...you will see more DPI and OPI by doing so.
I typically don't have to user a WR when they have some space...but in tight windows or tight coverage...you are handicapping your success insanely high by not taking control of the WR and fighting for that damn ball.
This is not like EA football games of yesteryear on PS2/3/4.
It demands some user interaction to be successful. Once I came to that realization the game opened up for me even more and I can't stop playing.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 08-07-2024, 09:36 AM.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Do you user catch?
Dude the ratings still are extremely prevalent.
But you do you and I will do what I discovered after never user catching for 15 years.
You will still drop the ball, you will still have incompletions and you will also open up more interactions. It's a total win win.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Do you user catch?
Yep...this is my approach as well. Catch type yes...I rarely steer them towards the ball unless it is an errant pass and need to go fight for the ball....otherwise it's stupid.I select the catch type but never actually take control of the WR until after the catch.
Unless they've finally fixed it, if you don't manually select the catch type your WR will go for a RAC catch 100% of the time unless you do a high pass, then they will make an aggressive catch.

I don't always choose my catch type....but I have no problem stepping in anymore. I found it infuriating how dumb the decisions can be if I don't.
As far as user defense.....I guess we have some here who are simply bad asses on the sticks.
I am not one of those bad asses. At 54 years old I need to switch to make some tackles sometimes.....if I don't I will get smoked every game. Yeah...it's hard. And that's a good thing.
There is absolutely no wrong way to play and I think anyone who thinks people who switch or choose to play this way is not "Sim" is ridiculous.
Sim is a state of mind not a method or a process. If I get the results I think emulate what I see on Saturday.....it's "Sim".
Period.
This whole notion that usering is not SIM is malarkey.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 08-07-2024, 09:37 AM.Now Playing on PS5:
