    Option pitches glitched?

I'm slowly phasing any options with pitches out of my play calls because they're too damn risky.

I've seen so much wonky stuff when I go to toss what seems like a pretty well timed pitch. The ball will sometimes rocket backwards into the endzone, I've seen it sail sky high for 10+ seconds of hang time, I've seen it defying physics and fly to the opposite side of the field. Sometimes when I time it right the HB will just come to a complete stop at the point he catches the pitch.

They work probably 70-80% of the time. But there's like a 10% chance that it's gonna be a defensive TD or a glitch safety.

Weird! I run a spread option offense and use pitches prolly 5-10 times per game. I’ve played about 75 games, so over 500 option pitches and have never seen anything like what you describe. Caveat: I’ve only played 2 games since the patch, so my experience post patch is much less, in case you’re saying you’ve only seen this behavior post patch.

Not sure if this totally relates. I only use speed option plays. I have tried it all. Tapping the button, holding the button, whatever. All of it looks wonky to me. I have some great ones, but I have also had some fumbles, and some just scare the crap out of me... even though the RB catches it.

Serious question though. What do the different colored lines mean on speed option plays? I have one where the QB line is light green, and the running back line is yellow.

I have one where the QB line is red, and the RB line is light green.

      Thanks for any help.

Option is a fairly significant part of my offense and I would say 9 out of 10 pitches are exactly as intended. The pitches that go wrong are the ones where I accidentally tap pitch, rather than press and hold, or I got hit as I tried to pitch. If you just tap pitch, you're more likely than not going to get that animation where the back turns around to catch it and kills all the momentum.

I will say that I have had 4 or 5 pitches out of what must be hundreds that went totally haywire and ended up a mile behind the back. I didn't stop to study what happened, but thinking about it, I think what was happening is that I cut up the field with the QB to get past a defender, then pitched late and the pitch animation that gets triggered has the pitch coming from the wrong hand. So for a speed option left, the quarterback was pitching with his right hand and the ball either hits the QB or flies off all wonky.

The best advice I can give for option pitches is the same advice I give to real quarterbacks running option, your aimpoint should be the outside shoulder of whoever you're reading. Run right at that player's outside shoulder and make them commit.

If they cross your face, from inside to out, keep and cut inside of them. If they stay inside, take one lateral step outside so your hips are perpendicular to the line of scrimmage and pitch. In a perfect world, the ball would be in the back's hands about 3 yards behind the LOS. The technique works surprisingly well in NCAA. If you have the stick at a 45 degree angle forward to run at the read key, just before you want to pitch, flatten it out to a 90 degree angle in the direction you're running and then press and hold pitch.

You should get a nice crisp pitch, on target and in stride. The best advice I can give is to go into practice, set the defense to random play and just run option over and over again.

I wonder if the issue is it’s more prone to bug out of the flexbone triple option. Sometimes a DT will warp onto my QB almost immediately after the snap, I’ll try to pitch, then something wonky happens

Pistol train formation power option seems to be bugged. Probably about 75% of the time I run that play as soon as I pitch a holding penalty gets called
