    How do you Gameplan?

I think it would add depth to the game if I was more deliberate about gameplanning for each opponent. What do you do to prepare for a game in dynasty?

I just kind of look at the opponent's roster and figure out who their best players are.

-Is their QB a runner? If so, might have to consider spying him or setting the option defense to conservative.

-How strong is their QB's arm? If it's not very strong think about trying to play the short pass more and make him throw down the field.

-Are their running backs more powerful or fast? That might effect whether we play more base defense or Nickel.

Is there a way to look at a team's playbook other than to go into practice mode as them? It would be nice to get a sense of what kind of formations they use to figure out how much they're going to be in 11 personnel vs. 12 vs. 10.

For their defense, I try to figure out who their best players are to avoid them.

-If their Left End is a beast, run away from him.

-If they have a great Defensive Tackle, try more outside runs.

-If they have a great pass rusher, think about whether we need to keep the Tight End in more on pass plays to double him.

-Is their secondary or front seven better? That might effect whether we run or pass more in the game.

-What kind of defense do they run? 4-3, 3-4, 4-2-5, 3-3-5? If they run a base 4-2-5 or 3-3-5 they're basically in Nickel all the time and you might be able to bully them with the run game.

I wish we could get a scouting report as part of the game that tells us what formations they use most, their run/pass percentage, how aggressive they are on defense but I don't think any of that information is available.

You can do most of this already. It's just not necessarily a "feature" in the game. Not a tab you go to or a step to complete before entering the game that week.

That said, you can go to your opponent's roster and see all of those things. You can make a conscious decision to not run to a certain side & you can go to coaching adjustmetns and make those changes. So it's all there, it's just not in one spot to do it all in.

I haven't done it this year yet but in the past I would sometimes add and remove a formation from my playbook each week based on my opponent.

Like if we're up against a smaller team I might add an unbalanced line or a three Tight End formation. Or add a five wide formation that uses my base personnel to get some mismatches on the outside.

Same thing with defense, you could add a 5-2 or Bear formation against a run heavy team or a new Nickel or Dime set against a spread team.

Trick Plays are another thing you can be deliberate about adding. I love the story of Belichick watching Alabama vs. LSU and seeing Bama run the trick formation where their Tight End lines up at Tackle and goes out for a pass and installing it so they could run it in the playoffs against the Ravens.

I really would like to see a gameplan feature. I'm always clicking right into my next opponent's game and learning on the fly how they may run offense and defense. I'd definitely read a little primer before each week's game if it offered it.

I do most, if not all that you mentioned.

I run with deep threat WR's, so naturally, I see where the slower CB/S is positioned and just attack him all game.

With the D-line, I look over strength and if they are a rusher or run stopper. I don't know if it's me, but I tend to see the rushers over commit more, leading to getting into the second level easier. Just attack that side.

I do most of what was said in the beginning post. I especially look for CPU team's wide receivers. They have great acceleration and speed? I might be double teaming that guy. If they gonna run the ball down our throat, and the 4-3 ain't working, I will switch to the 4-6. Did this in my last dynasty game against Wyoming. They had a 92 overall RB. They ran almost every play, and I had to resort to the 4-6. I was afraid they would switch to the pass and catch us off guard. We kept him in check most of the game.

              Re: How do you Gameplan?

Coming from exclusively Play Now, I spend a bit in the opponents depth chart prior to the game. I think that’s a good baseline.

What the OP points out is that there’s not a great way to suss out base style or alignments, at least from my standpoint. Am I going to be stopping that 92 RB out of base or dime? Are we throwing bulk short passes or taking shots? How are they goin to defend me? Zones, blitzes, man? I do wish there were an easier way to see team playbooks or have a bit of a preview of how a team plans to play.

It usually takes me a couple quarters to figure this out. Against a good team that can be too long. I don’t know WTF Nevada plans to do.

                Re: How do you Gameplan?

I take a peek at my opponents roster before each game but don't really gameplan that much. I do more for bowl games.
The things I pay close attention to are

                1. Their offensive line. Where are they weak? The fact that the game seems to swap positions makes this less useful. A low rated center is automatic "today we hunt!" and I will blitz more.
                2. Their defensive line. I'm looking for their weakest against the run and thats where I'm running. I only pay attention to the pass rush if one of their dudes is a early round draft pick type.
                3. Probably should be number 1, I look at how their WRs release against the press
3a. Check the press rating of their corners
                4. If I have a HB that can catch passes (I normally do), I check their linebackers and how they rate in pass coverage. I run a lot of stuff designed to get my RB 1v1 in the open field and if I identify a mismatch pregame I make a note to make that a point of emphasis. Its been the difference in a couple of my wins.

Now in game I make heavy use of the coach stick to look at matchups, so thats why pregame I'm not looking at too much.

A scouting mechanic would be cool if EA resists their inclination to make it ratings boosts. I hate how its always ratings boosts that drive things.

                  Re: How do you Gameplan?

I take a very simplistic approach. I focus more on what we want to do rather than what the other team does. I look at where the stars are on the other team. If the other team has a star at safety, I try to stay away from him. If they have a star on the DLine, I double team, or put extra blockers on his side of the ball. On offense, I have one of the best Tight Ends in the country as well as one of the best Running Backs in the country. So, they are heavily involved in what I want to do offensively. I run an offense that takes advantage of what my players are best at, and we just roll with it. My approach is just more of adjusting on the fly as the game goes on.

Can someone explain to me how to use gameplans in a custom playbook along with coach suggestions when calling plays?

I noticed that the coach suggestions option when calling plays will give you 15 play choices. So I set my gameplans in my custom playbook with 15 plays for each situation with those plays each rated between 3 and 5 stars.

When I use the playbook in dynasty though coach suggestions might give me 10 different plays within the 15 options with a handful of plays repeated and some plays not showing up.

How do I set this up so that the 15 plays I want for each situation are what shows up in coach suggestions?
