Anyone want to tell me why there are only 6-8 recruits interested in West Virginia when you start a dynasty? Is there something going on with the school I am unaware of? I mean, not even 1 star recruits

West Virginia Recuriting
Their pipelines are absolutely awful. One of the worst in the game honestly…
It doesn’t make sense but sadly that’s how the game is set up.
Edit: Here’s 2 handy guides from Reddit and in the comments he and some others talk about West Virginia, Iowa, etc. - they suggest picking the biggest major pipeline closest to WVU and begin building it up.

Re: West Virginia Recuriting
This is strange and shouldn't be the case. But this game has a lot of bugs and issues.Comment

Adversely, teams like New Mexico State due to their closeness to Texas, Arizona and California have pretty solid recruiting in game despite New Mexico being rated the worst state to find players in game.

Re: West Virginia Recuriting
The state of West Virginia is surrounded by solid recruiting pipelines: Virginia, DC, Pennsylvania, Ohio. We in southern West Virginia like to call WVU "The University of Pennsylvania at Morgantown" due to the high percentage of PA recruits on their rosters.Comment

Re: West Virginia Recuriting
There is nothing with the school that I am aware of. It might have to do with the recruiting pipelines. They have (competition[tier]):
1: Tier 3 Tidewater (Clemson, Alabama [tier 5], VT, Oklahoma [4], Wake, Virginia, Pitt [3])
2: Tier 2 Ohio (Ohio State [5], Michigan State [3])
3: Tier 2 Pennsylvania (Penn State [5], Wisconsin [3])
4: Tier 2 West Virginia (which I believe ranks at the bottom of pipeline strength).
5: Tier 2: South Florida (Florida, Georgia, Miami, Clemson [5], UCF, Louisville, Nebraska, Maryland [3])
6: Tier 2: Central Florida (Florida State, Miami, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Clemson [5], UCF, North Carolina, Illinois, Minnesota [3])
7: Tier 2: Metro Atlanta (Clemson, Georgia [5], Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee [4])
8: Tier 2: Southern Georgia (Auburn, Georgia [5], Georgia Tech, Florida State [3])Comment

Re: West Virginia Recuriting
I understand West Virginia isn't considered glamorous but you're geographically close to a lot of football hotbeds: Pennsylvania, Ohio, Baltimore, DC, Tidewater region of Virginia. Getting the top guys from those areas are going to be tough because you'd think they get scooped up by Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State but even the second tier of guys from those states would be pretty good.Comment

Re: West Virginia Recuriting
Its not just the pipelines, unless things have changed much since NCAA 14 WV also had poor grades in many recruiting pitches.
Quick heads up, the word you're looking for was converselyComment

I'm playing my dynasty as Virginia, a school in the same area with a worse set of pipelines than West Virginia (as a trade-off, I have better pitch grades). Additionally, my head coach is not a Recruiter; only my defensive coordinator had any recruiting abilities to start the season.
I'm currently finishing up putting together a Top 30 class because I knew from the jump to not get into recruiting battles with schools in the same area with better pipeline levels. I focused instead on scooping up as many 3* gems as I could. I only entered a race for a 4-star or better recruit if no schools were chasing him early (I narrowly beat Georgia for a 4-star FS this way) or if the schools chasing him were schools I could beat (I swooped in and took a 4-star MLB from Appalachian State). It doesn't always work, I did lose out in a races for 4-star players to Maryland (better pipeline level) and Syracuse (lost school prestige tiebreak at Top 3 stage).
A lot of the YouTube guides for coach builds in this game focus almost exclusively on building up Recruiter abilities; I just don't think that advice is one-size-fits-all for every school in the game. Lower-tier teams in Power 4 leagues aren't going to consistently win against the powerhouses in recruiting, you might be served better to aim lower and better.Comment

Re: West Virginia Recuriting
But why then is it the official state anthem of West Virginia and not Virginia?
History:
The song is the theme song of West Virginia University, and it has been performed during every home football pregame show since 1972. The song is played for other athletic events and university functions, including after football games, for which the fans are encouraged to stay in the stands and sing the song along with the team. On September 6, 1980, at the invitation of West Virginia Governor Jay Rockefeller, songwriters Danoff, Nivert, and Denver performed the song during pregame festivities to a sold-out crowd of Mountaineer fans. This performance marked the dedication of the current West Virginia University Mountaineer Field and the first game for head coach Don Nehlen.
The popularity of the song inspired resolutions in the West Virginia Legislature to adopt "Take Me Home, Country Roads" as an official state song. On March 7, 2014, the West Virginia Legislature approved a resolution to make "Take Me Home, Country Roads" an official state song of West Virginia, alongside three other pieces: "West Virginia Hills", "This Is My West Virginia", and "West Virginia, My Home Sweet Home".Governor Earl Ray Tomblin signed the resolution into law on March 8, 2014.
Background of the Song:
To Danoff, the lyric "the radio reminds me of my home far away" in the bridge is quintessentially West Virginian, an allusion to when he listened to the program Saturday Night Jamboree, broadcast from Wheeling, West Virginia, on WWVA at his home in Springfield, Massachusetts during his childhood in the 1950s.
Danoff was influenced by friend and West Virginian actor Chris Sarandon and members of a West Virginia commune who attended Danoff's performances.Of the commune members, Danoff remarked, "They brought their dogs and were a very colorful group of folks, but that is how West Virginia began creeping into the song." While the song was inspired by Danoff's upbringing in Springfield, Massachusetts, he "didn't want to write about Massachusetts because he didn't think the word was musical."Last edited by Tyler Durden; 09-01-2024, 01:19 AM.NFL - Pittsburgh Steelers
