Now, they just need to fix it so other players' numbers don't change to something different if you edit them and they are on different sides of the ball.

They just need to give us the ability to duplicate numbers, we would be set! Wishfully hoping for appearance editing to be available soon as well.

Yeah it's weird how they will block numbers currently in use on that side of the ball but show numbers from the other side of the ball available like they have the full intention of allowing duplicate numbers but just can't figure out how to break the madden engine of refusing duplicates. I'm guessing they didn't want to release the number edit until they figured that out, but decided to give it to us as a work in progress because of all the complaints.

Just an FYI, you can assign duplicate numbers on offense and defense indirectly by using the jersey number manipulation trick which was discovered before this update.

My recommendation is to assign high-value numbers (0-19) to defensive players directly using the Edit Player UI, then use the indirect manipulation method to reassign offensive players' numbers until they get re-rolled on the number you want them to have.

The entire jersey number editing situation has been... obtuse, but at least we're making progress lol.

I don’t know what it is (I couldn’t care less about changing numbers before) but here’s what I do. It works if a position can be randomly assigned the desired number.

OLB and WR both want 0. OLB doesn’t get it randomly I don’t think, but I could be wrong. WR can.

I assign 0 to OLB, changes WR to 5 (it’s random, so 5 is an example).

I edit #5 defender and WR randomly gets 14.

I don’t have a 14 defender, so I take 1 guy that will be changed later and make him 14, randomly changing WR to 6.

I edit #6 defender and WR randomly gets 0 and I’m done with them.

So say you have a QB who is #13 and you don’t want that. If your Kicker is also that number, go to edit your K (just enter the screen, don’t even have to change anything) and your QB number will auto-change to something else. Then you rinse and repeat until you get a number you like or your QB gets switched to a number where you have no duplicate. Then you’d have to wait a year hoping your next year’s freshman get a duplicate of your QB.

Now this won’t happen bc you can just change your QB to what you want, but if someone already has that number, they will auto-change to something else.

I’m just happy that I can finally edit my Teambuilder guys to their correct number.

This also means I can retire numbers when deserving

this whole numbers thing was an issues that didn't bother me in any way shape or form, however once the update for OD dropped, I did edit one of my players numbers, and I liked it.

The only confusing thing about this to me is when I go to edit a player some numbers are off-limits anyway, which I assume is either retired/in-use numbers, so I guess I wonder how duplicates happen in the first place.

You can have duplicates cuz 1 offensive guy and 1 defensive guy can have the same number.

They’re off limits cuz someone on that side of the ball already has it.

Dunno how kickers/punters play into it with EA.

Yeah it's interesting to me that they have the correct numbers blocked when you go to change a number, but it still changes the player on the other side of the ball's number when you pick it. If I had to guess, I'd say they probably knew this was the major issue with number editing and that's why they had it blocked for so long.

I was able to get almost everyone to have their correct numbers in my Oregon dynasty with this. So, thank you. Oregon's roster had a WR, CB, and SS all wearing #7, when only the WR and CB should. Before being able to edit players, hadn't been able to get the SS to a different number without also screwing up either the CB or the WR. But now I was able to.

Only one I couldn't get was DT Derrick Harmon from #4 to #55. Seems like DTs will only get 90-99?
