I did not know this is a penalty option (I believe enabled by default) in this game. College football does not have an illegal contact penalty. LOL at me, I found out because I was at #1 Georgia, leading 21-7 late in the 2nd quarter defending a 3rd and 17 at their 12. I stop them after a 10 yard gain but it wasn't meant to be.

Yeah. As someone who doesn’t watch the NFL, I had no clue what it was (I thought it was a guy running out of bounds on his own and then being the 1st to touch a pass so I was surprised when my MLB was called for it in the middle of the field). I turned the penalty off quite a while ago.

I turned Illegal Contact off on the main settings, but the change was not applied to my dynasty and I got another Illegal Contact penalty in the next game. I have not found the UI to turn penalties on or off in a dynasty, so I'm assuming it can't be done. Despite really liking the progress I made in the dynasty, I thought it was unacceptable to get penalties that result in a 1st down that do not exist in real college football. I deleted the dynasty.


I started a new dynasty because I (incorrectly) assumed the penalty configuration was bound to dynasty at creation time. Illegal Contact is ON despite being OFF in my global settings. I guess I just have to accept that I might lose a game after being called for an imaginary penalty. Then I also realized the Ineligible Receiver Downfield is OFF despite it being ON in my global settings. Well, I guess I know how they "fixed" the Ineligible Receiver Downfield in dynasties on RPOs in the 1st or 2nd patch they released.


This game is half-baked. They need to allow us to configure penalties in dynasties or respect my global settings that I cannot configure in dynasties. There are too many things that are just flat-out wrong.

You can turn penalties off in the Gameplay Sliders part of a Dynasty. I am looking at it right now to confirm.

Or is the contact 5+ yards down field triggering the penalty straight-up legal in CFB IRL?

I honestly just noticed this for the first time tonight and had to laugh. Illegal contact is not a thing in college. This was clearly copied from Madden and not removed. Kinda sloppy. Doesn’t hurt anything because I have never had it called, but come on EA…

I have this turned off. I still get DPI calls. Defensive Holding is rarely called in this game. I think I have gotten that call once or twice before turning it off and none since, which is still inconclusive at this point in my opinion.

It's the second. You can still contact a receiver downfield in college football. If you grab or hook, it's still Defensive holding, and if the ball is in the air, it's Pass Interference. But contact between the receiver and defender is legal anywhere on the field if the ball isn't in the air.

I personally leave it on because defensive holding isn't a thing in the game. So this is basically replicating that.

I had to turn it off because I literally only see it get called in one particular situation, and that's when the CPU runs any sort of RPO and my user controller player gets blocked before the ball is thrown/caught. It's always flagged as illegal contact, even if I don't move on the play and the WR or TE hits me, I get flagged for it 100% of the time.

I hate turning off penalties, even though that doesn't even exist on the college level anyways, but given how the penalty worked in game, it was an easy decision.

This is what caused me to turn it off to. It was the most ridiculous penalty I’ve ever seen (calling my guy for a penalty for being blocked).

I'd have thought the same thing, until I saw a NY Giant get penalized for having his own face mask grabbed. We are in a whole new world of refereeing.
