How do I get the CPU to control the defender that I have selected?

Sometimes I play autopass coach mode. How do I get the CPU to control my selected defender? Is there a setting for that? I found the one for making the QB autopass, but I didn’t see one for defense.

In my 1st game vs CPU in a quick match, roughly 20% of the time the CPU controlled the defender that I had selected just fine. The other 80% of the time the defender wouldn’t move as the game was waiting for my input (which of course completely ruins it being coach mode).

I’ve heard there is an autopass coach mode in Madden so I’m guessing there’s a setting for that somewhere.

    Thanx in advance.

Did you ever figure this out?

On All-American, I swear my LB/DB used to run his assigned coverage until I touched the controller post-snap. I think I started my gaming day in Practice mode one day to try to get better at RPO reads, and when I next went into a game, the LB/DB just stands there post-snap.

Weirdly, when I turn the difficulty to Varsity, the LB/DB runs his coverage like usual.

The only way to get a defender to move on his own for AA and Heisman is to put him in the box at the line of scrimmage, or to user a defensive lineman. There's no setting to turn off or on. This is the same whether you have coach mode turned on or off.

The issue with doing this with a LB (or safety) in coverage is that it can easily break the blocking, giving you a stupidly easy sack. The OL recognizes your guy as a rushing threat so he tries to block him. When your guy drops back into coverage the OL guy will follow him down field a few yards trying to block him (meanwhile leaving someone else on the DL that really is rushing the QB unblocked for an easy sack).

I typically user a lineman and just hold L1 through the whole play

When I try this with my LB, often he just runs down to the bottom corner... like, past the line of scrimmage, past the QB/pocket, and just off into oblivion.

              That’s why I user a lineman. Not a linebacker

So if I take my LB and put him on the line in the box pre-snap every play, he'll go back into his coverage when the play starts?

But really I'm just trying to figure out why he was running his coverages in All-American for 3 seasons and then now he's not.

I can’t speak to why he was moving on his own before and now he is not. Not trying to toot my own horn here or anything, I just know what my experience has been since day one. It’s been the same in Madden as long as I can remember. I’ve been playing coach mode in Madden for years.

On All American (All Pro in Madden) or higher, your LB will move on his own when he’s blitzing and also I think if he’s in man coverage. I could be wrong about the man coverage. But I know he will move on his own when blitzing.

Your defensive line will move on their own, but they seem to get a more realistic rush if you hold L1.

I don’t recall a linebacker in zone coverage ever moving on his own. Maybe you were playing on Varsity and are just misremembering. I know I’ve done that when testing sliders. Thought I was playing on All American but I was on varsity because that’s what I had previously been testing.

This is pissing me off to no end lol. I was sometimes trying L1 as a safety and couldn't for the life of me figure out why the feature wasn't working as advertised. Guess it's just a glitch.

What is holding L1 supposed to do?

I *think* it's supposed to make your defender run his (post-snap) zone/coverage/blitz/whatever until you let go of the button.

But I've only heard about it after asking this question, and it's (of course) not mentioned in the in-game controls diagram

That’d be awesome if it works like you described (I SUCK at both man and zone coverage and I always control a MLB). I’ve never tried it, but I’m gonna right now!

This is correct. I think it’s in the “defensive pursuit” tab though.

I tried it in play now. I tried it as an MLB in a hook zone, an OLB covering a purple zone, and a safety covering a deep zone, and in every case, as soon as I held LB (either before snap or right after the snap) my guy would man up with the nearest receiver and run with him everywhere. I even tried it with a drop zone coverage (all the above were match) with a CB covering a flat and he just manned up with the flanker across from him and followed his drag route across the field, and well past the point he should’ve handed him off to the LB.

This is a bummer as I’d love to have the CPU drive my guy in coverage like it did on varsity (and on every difficulty level in ‘14), but sadly this doesn’t work (at least for zone coverage, which is the majority of my play calls).
