Some Player Ratings Decrease Upon Starting Dynasty File?

I went to start a new dynasty mode after yesterday’s ratings update, but I’m running into an issue that I also had after the preseason update: a very small percentage of players have their ratings crater upon me starting the dynasty.

For example, the new update has Kaleb Johnson at an 87. I start a new Iowa dynasty and go to redshirt players or view roster and he’s a 72. Similar theme with MSU RB Kayron Lynch Adams (84 down to 70-something) and several other players across the country.

I’ve tried making 4 dynasty files and it’s the same 87 to 72 drop for Johnson each time. And no, it’s not because I’m using the old roster file somehow, bc the other players across the file do have their new ratings come through into the dynasty. Plus, the old update had Johnson at a 74, not a 72, so there’s no correlation anyway.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a workaround?

Between this, some of the players being programmed to transfer no matter how the season goes (Aidan Chiles leaving bc of Playing Style even if he leads the nation in passing yards lol), and the horribly done coach face models that look nothing like any 35-60 year old male that does into coaching (when you could’ve just taken the same ones from Madden), there are so many small fixes that could be made to fix dynasty, but it’s not gonna bring in more microtransactions.

I’ve never experienced this, but I think I read it’s a scheme issue. His ratings won’t be changed (I.e. same SPD, TRK, BTK, etc) only his OVR changes and this is because the game feels that based on your offensive scheme he’d be valued as a 72 OVR.

Any easy way to test this would be to use different schemes for your HC and see if his OVR changes with them. If this is the case, I’d guess you could start with a scheme that has him with a high OVR, and then change your scheme once you start the dynasty (his OVR shouldn’t change with scheme changes inside of dynasty). If this does work, it wouldn’t help you with other teams’ players changing their OVR.

There are several ongoing "glitches" that seem to contribute to OVR's either being displayed or actually decreasing. Some of these were patched, but I am not sure the problem is fully fixed.

The explanation given by @jello1717 was accurate about the scheme issue, and that's probably the most likely culprit. A few weeks after the game came out, there was a patch to address a glitch that caused player OVR's to drop - often dramatically - due to the team's scheme/playbook. If you hover over a player in the depth chart screen, you may notice that their base OVR is on the player card to the right with their picture, but this may differ from their displayed rating on the depth chart. That rating can be a few points higher do to progression and other factors, but I think it was also being affected by the scheme. They patched this, but I think it still displays wrong sometimes.

There are other things you can do in the menus that also cause player ratings to crater. If you try to switch a player's position using EDIT PLAYER, you can permanently wreck their OVR, even if you then try to switch them back. I made that mistake a few times out of frustration for "Position Changes" not working properly in the offseason, but no longer touch it.

However, it sounds like your issue is with players at the start of a NEW dynasty. That sounds like a separate glitch, but I believe what you are seeing.

I wouldn't worry about the transfer thing, however. I had 2 or 3 players that wanted to transfer in my first offseason, but have completed 7 or so seasons since, and have never seen another player even consider transferring. This is despite creating several situations that would cause real-life players to DEFINITELY hit the portal, like a cluster of super-talented players at one position with zero playing time given to the backups. The transfer function is almost completely broken (in terms of players leaving your team).

Does it make a difference if you are using cloud vs. offline? Or default roster vs. current. I haven't tested it but some people on reddit claim one of those ways prevent it.

There are pretty huge pros and cons for both online and offline dynasties so I’d definitely choose between the 2 based on those pros/cons and not because of some initial players’ OVRs.

Its because when you start a dynasty his tendency is being changed to receiving back for whatever reason. I dont believe there is a fix for Kaleb Johnson because ive tried different playbooks within dynasty, different playbooks starting the dynasty, position switches then back to hb, and nothing changes his tendency back to power back. Maybe someone smarter than me or who has more time has found a fix but ive had no such luck.



Ive read about some of these "fixes" working with other players but i havent seen it firsthand.



This seems like the playbook glitch that i think they fixed but it seems to happen no matter if you change the playbook or not. His ovr goes back up when hes on the powerback depth chart. Its just the HB depth chart is treating him like a 3rd down back. It may affect simming though i dont know, and it likely will make it impossible for him to become an impact player the 1st year.

I think I have a theory as to why some players rating decrease but I may need to do some more testing to see

I assumed scheme. But changing things doesn’t do anything. So this has to be some kind of weird glitch or flaw. I started a dynasty with LSU yesterday and John Emery Jr goes from like a 79 in the overhead roster to a 65 in dynasty. His ratings stayed the same, but the overall being 14 points off is crazy.

The only thing I can think of at this point is that for some of the NIL players they were pasted over placeholder/fake players on rosters until they were added in for whatever reason. So I now believe for certain players like Emery Jr and the Iowa RB that when they are loaded in Dynasty their ratings possibly revert back to the fake players ratings and archetype of the player they replaced

I have experienced that ONCE, but it was several patches ago so that I am not 100% certain it wasn't bug related. My #3 RB was a 77 overall and he was my starting 3DRB in the Spread offense. I made the playoffs and both my coordinators left. I replaced the OC with a Pro Style and his overall dropped to 61. He was just as effective running draws and catching passes out of the backfield, but a 16 point drop in overall was shocking to me.

Yes, the issue is his archetype changed, as did many of the new NIL players they added. It was almost assuredly unintentional, but there's no way to edit it until position changes in the offseason. Hopefully EA fixes this with the next patch. And fingers crossed, hopefully in future games, something like this will be editable by the user.
