Anyone else feel like ratings don't matter much?
Finally started a dynasty as NC State and got my butt kicked by some FCS school. Couldn't stop them to save my life. Then go to play Tennessee and beat them pretty handily. I've been playing many exhibitions before this and also noticed while teams have very different styles it's completely random how difficult the game is against them. Kinda gives me no motivation to play Dynasty and invest time recruiting when I don't notice any difference once they're on the field. I would rather the ratings matter too much than too little or not at all. At least then it would be fun even if unrealistic. I also saw this Madden video that confirmed my thinking even more. Wanted to see if others are annoyed by this as well.

I definitely have tougher games against tougher teams and easier games against easier teams.Favorite Teams:
College #1: Michigan Wolverines
College #2: Michigan State Spartans (my alma mater)
College #3: North Carolina Tar Heels
NHL: Detroit Redwings

Here’s my schedule for the last 4 years. You can see that i’m losing to good teams (while still beating some good teams) and beating the lesser teams that I should be beating.Favorite Teams:

Re: Anyone else feel like ratings don't matter much?
I haven't found that to be the case at all, but you can certainly find sliders and settings around these forums if you want to tweak it to emphasize player ratings even more.
What I've noticed is play style matters a ton. I've found Mississippi State to be my hardest SEC opponent by far the first 2 seasons because both their offensive and defensive playbooks are different from everyone else I face. If I try to call the game the same way I usually do I'll get crushed, but as soon as I find the right adjustments I'll get itComment

I feel like ratings matter more in this game than the previous Madden’s. However, I feel like some games have certain “scripts” that heavily influence the flow of a game.Comment

Ratings matter much. Many muches. Ball State QB Kial Kelly was a beast on the default roster when he was a 87. Now that hes a 77 in updated rosters, I don't even want to play with Ball State. He's gone from beast to least.Last edited by Ghost Of The Year; 10-05-2024, 07:47 AM.Talk about things nobody cares.

no idea what level you're playing on but Heisman is not gonna be as near as rating based so if thats your level, drop down to AA and you'll see individual ratigs matter much more. Finally started a dynasty as NC State and got my butt kicked by some FCS school. Re: Anyone else feel like ratings don't matter much?
I’ve had the same issue when trying to settle into a difficulty and sliders, and I’ve posted about it. The team I play with is probably similar or lesser than NC State in skill level and ratings, but I expect to be able to regularly handle poor teams(Kent State, etc) if I play a decent game and regularly get whomped(within video game reason) by the elite teams(OSU, Oregon) even if I do the same. Finally started a dynasty as NC State and got my butt kicked by some FCS school. Some people will claim(or don’t, IDK) to not see this, but I’m personally seeing it in the games I play. Don’t let them talk you out of your observations. I’ve played dozens of games trying to break my own bias to this belief and I don’t think it’s there. Maybe it’s just my copy and a lot of the people donating their time producing sliders have been kind enough to weigh in, but I think it’s just the state of the game.
I’ve described it as less the ratings don’t matter than perhaps the game is programmed to keep scores tight for entertainment purposes(it is a game after all). But yeah, also the ratings might simply be clumped too closely together.
At the end of the day, in order to not let this ruin a fun game for me, I chalk some of it up to variability and the fact that’s it’s just a game and you should probably win more than your given team(or less for some I suppose, but that’s a concept foreign to me) if you plan to have any fun. ****ing infuriating when Northern Illinois puts up a big fight and Oregon lays down like a dog though.
May you trounce Marshall followed by Miami kicking your ***. Good luck.Last edited by zpq12; 10-05-2024, 04:57 PM.UofM-Duluth Bulldogs HockeyComment

Momentum and composure is a big deal. Keep an eye on it and maybe change things up.
Thanks to @Canes21 for the tip. Turned down dramatically the "comeback CPU" and stuff of the like.Originally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.
It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.Comment

Right, no way Alabama let's a team like Vandy give them trouble or ever beat them.

Re: Anyone else feel like ratings don't matter much?
Every team has bad/good games and outliers are to be expected. It's completely different when there's absolutely no consistency between the rating of the team you're playing and the difficulty of the game.Comment

Exactly. No way a preseason top 10 team loses its first 3 games against unranked opponents.

Re: Anyone else feel like ratings don't matter much?
That example is not even related to this conversation. FSU was highly overrated and they are underachieving. If they now beat a top 10 team at least it would be an example worth mentioning, but even then BC/Memphis/Georgia Tech are not remotely the same as a FCS team. When has a team ever lost to a FCS team and dominated a top-10 SEC team? I guess I'll just create the storyline that my team is the most crazy outlier in the history of NCAA football.Comment

Re: Anyone else feel like ratings don't matter much?
2007 Michigan lost to FCS App State and went on to beat Urban Meyer & Tim Tebow in the Citrus Bowl.
Otherwise, the difference between a 31-10 lead and a 31-10 deficit in this game is like 6 or 7 key plays.
Maybe it’s subconscious, but I’d bet you’re just not taking things as seriously against weaker opponents and the results are exactly what you deserve.Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.Comment
