Proplay vs MoCap animations/players, how big a difference do you feel?
Curious how you guys feel about this, namely those who play old school eras and also modern era back to back (or even better yet, if you combine players on the court).

Player signature animations make a big difference in terms of feellng and immersion, at least for me.
For example, Luka has a huge amount of new ProPlay animations but also some MoCap animations from the year he was the cover athlete. So basically everything you do in the game is something he does look irl too.
There are players from older eras that have great mocap animations like Dirk but it's no comparable to the current era and the ProPlay addition. -

Proplay is the greatest leap in animations since sig shots were introduced in 2k7Comment

Makes you wonder how they’ll be able to move forward with older and current eras being that proplay will keep evolving while mocap gets phased out (such as all mocap dribble styles that used to be in the game already being removed). The juxtaposition between older eras and current eras animations when it comes to immersion will just get more stark.Comment

You guys haven't even mentioned go to shots. I started creating content based off certain players animations. I have a few more on the way
Today I found out that they even have pro play one dribble pull up for players like Klay Thompson and others.Hands Down....Man Down - 2k9 memories

I like the ProPlay additions but I feel like we need a Street Fighter style move list to be able to fully enjoy them. IMO it’s a little unrealistic to expect people to “spend hours in the lab” to be able to fully enjoy the hard work and dedication needed to add these games. This is why I feel that the MyPlayer stuff negatively impacts the game overall. My first 2K was 2K7, and this is the first year I feel that I don’t have the time needed to understand the game and fully enjoy. There’s no reason I shouldn’t be able to pick a random team and enjoy these animations without having to practice with each player.
But nonetheless, MyPlayer isn’t going anywhere. So that’s why I think a move list would definitely help to allow us to enjoy all the animations.#HeatNation

The full fledged pro play makes this the most immersive and realistic bball game I ever played. The pro play helps me to overlook some legacy problem with the game but 2k is at least innovating!!!THANKS FOR THE TRADE SANDIEGO KEEP RIVERS WE'LL TAKE ELIComment

For me the only downside to proplay (and it’s by no means a logistical or technical downside, purely personal and emotional) is that it renders the legends as far inferior and makes what was once impressive (mocap gameplay) now feel outdated in comparison. As opposed to pre-proplay when everyone was on an even playing field (mocap).
One can of course give legends proplay animations but that’s kind of against the whole point of proplay (it’s supposed to capture a specific player) and leaves the question if the closest modern proplay animation combos will be better than their actual old mocap animations to reach peak immersion with a legend.
I like some modern nba stars but for the most part I’m not that connected and intrigued by the current nba so it’s kind of like I can’t appreciate the full extent of what ProPlay captures. Would be nice if eventually legends can receive the tech too. Imagine Shaq, HAKEEM, MJ, Kobe Proplays. The level of distinction would be amazing.Comment

Would be awesome to see!!! I guess that would depend if this immersive technology that directly translates NBA footage into engaging gameplay is able to also do it with the old footage that exist in the archives. Dunno how much of likeness issue this would be tho. Also, I could be thinking of this too closley to rotoscoping when it isn't.Last edited by hesko; 11-04-2024, 12:34 AM.Comment

It's weird and I love it.
