Three months later - passing style thoughts

Wondering what everyone is using now that it’s been out for awhile. I’m bouncing between revamped and P and A. But I’m torn. I stopped playing madden years ago and never got rid of NCAA 14. I was decent w classic passing and using a little left stick on 14. bought a PS 5 just for the new game. Started w classic but decided to give revamped a chance. Liked some things but got frustrated w picks and inability to make certain throws so tried placement and accuracy. Similarly positives and negatives. I can’t decide what to do at this point. Especially vs the cpu in dynasty. Here’s my thoughts.

Classic - love the simplicity and clean screen. But it doesn’t work as good as it used to on quick hitters to the TE seam like it did in 14. And you need to be able to loft but not lob to get over LBs in this years version bc they can leap ridiculously. So it’s out for me.

Revamped. Love the ability to control Arc. This is THE BEST for a deep route if you have a step on your man. I complete all go routes in this scenario. The others allow the defender to sway bc of trajectory. Left stick works pretty good and you don’t ever have to use the trigger or button unless you want to throw a high point ball with lb. BAD - seems to take to long to get ball out. Meter can be distracting - so I throw a ton of picks bc I put too much or too little arc constantly bc it’s hard to fill just right. I HATE that you can’t see where you are aiming when you left stick. U think if you could see it I’d go revamped and live with my meter struggles.

Placement and Acuracy. Feels the best to me in terms of control and I love that I can see the reticle so I lead just right. Don’t even need free form most of the time. Can really throw a dude open. But I accidentally Freeform too much too. Sucks for deep balls if you have a step. You have to LB and high ball and then you wind up jumping a lot getting hit and dropping. Great for back shoulder if they give you cushion. I keep coming back to this for the visible reticle and the control bc I can see it.

I guess I really want to like revamped bc the arc and the go route. You can back shoulder just fine w it even though P and A is better at that. I like that you don’t need LT (although I believe it helps w backshoulder fade by goal line). I really want to like it. But I HATE that I can’t see the aiming point/reticle. With revamped and P and A I’ve made some money throws. But I get picked 3-4 times every game vs the CPU. Idk

I want to use Revamped, but I stick with Placement. I love the trajectory and power control that Revamped gives, and I love the idea behind accuracy penalties when trying to rifle a ball somewhere. However, 99% of passes of Revamped passes are still catchable and that is a major turn off for me.

Placement at least gives me a realistic amount of misses that happen in realistic manners. If you could give me the aiming precision of Placement, the misses that Placement produces, with the Trajectory and Power control that Revamped allows, it'd be the perfect system for me.

Placement has given me the best overall experience. The accuracy ratings seem to matter and I can actually miss throws. With placement I have overthrown deep balls with press coverage. With revamped deep balls are automatic touchdowns with press coverage. I do miss the trajectories of revamped but every throw is too accurate with that setting. I like that now the game punishes me when using low accuracy qbs

This is my sentiment as well.

Funny though, in Madden25, I'm pretty sure Placement[and accuracy] has the new pass trajectories.

I've tried using the Placement options in Madden in the past. I don't like the timing element for accuracy in Placement and Accuracy. And tbh, I never noticed a huge difference in Placement and Power vs Classic's ability to place the ball beyond the visual elements.

For this game, I've gone back and forth between Revamped and Classic, and recently switched back to Classic. There are 6 big reasons why I've been enjoying Classic more

#1, even though Revamped has much more control over the arc of the pass, I find that I have a better feel for it with Classic. You do still have the ability to loft the ball over linebackers without lobbing it with Classic. But I found that I was more often throwing the ball with too much or too little loft with Revamped.

#2, might be placebo, but it definitely feels like the ball comes out of my hands quicker with Classic. Quick outs, especially those on RPOs, now have room for RAC, whereas with Revamped they were more often than not sideline catches.

#3 Speaking of RAC, my players have a much better time catching the ball in stride with Classic vs Revamped for me. Probably that I wasn't using the "proper" loft enought for revamped.

#4 Feels like my ability to control the placement of the ball is much easier with Classic vs Revamped. I have Pass Lead Increase on Medium, and I can throw my receiver to where I want them to go much easier.

#5 I was really tired of the Revamped UI blocking my view of defenders on WR screen plays. I run a lot of RPO, and it was becoming an issue when I couldn't see where the defenders were coming from immediately upon catching a pass.

#6 Just aesthetically, I don't like having a meter on my screen. I don't play full clean screen like some, but I do try and reduce to visual clutter to a degree.

The ball definitely comes out quicker with classic. Hit a TE on a vert before they get to safety. You’ll complete it on classic. Probably on placement and accuracy too. Takes too long on revamped. I tried a ton of stuff on practice on air and then on mini game 7 on 7. Although I love the arc and lead on deep balls from revamped I have too much trouble controlling the pass underneath. Float them when I don’t want too and I like the visual reticle with the placement options. I settled on placement and accuracy no lead and reticle around 12. Deep throws on a go will be harder. But posts and corners were easier. And I can pinpoint the reticle for underneath stuff. I made at least 4-5 throws each round that I could never make with anything else. That sold me. I love classic and probably would’ve stuck w it in this version but I feel like it worked better in 14. Could just be me but that’s where I’m at tonight. Still need to work on it in game tho.

Been playing consistently placement and accuracy small lead 16 reticle. I like faster reticle bc I want to move it where I want quick bc you only have a half a second once you push the receivers button. I’m getting good at deep balls with it. Have to free form and press up and to the sideline. Have to tap button to lob. My only issue lately has been missing some easy outs and stuff bc I time the meter poorly and get red throws. Trying to not use free form much and just use the stick hoping that helps. But I played some games w revamped too and I’m good w that as well just not quite as good. I feel like it’s easier to hit easy passes consistently. But there’s throws you can only make on placement and accuracy.

I’ve really enjoyed the placement and accuracy. The one throw I have trouble with is in the flats to a HB. I want to lead him up the field to get him moving towards the LOS but when i push up it throws it high and he has to run back to get it. Any tips?

Use LT to aim the reticle further up field. Pushing up with no LT has a limited range.

Agreed. Free form up. But also timing is important. Wait till he starts to turn up field a bit before letting er rip.

Tried Revamped briefly, didn't really care for it. Too much on the screen and I preferred the simplicity of Classic. I never liked Placement in Madden so didn't even try it in CFB.

I might be the minority but I’ve stuck with Revamped. I’m really hoping there’s a full blown revamped 2.0 in CF26.
The problem I have with revamped is the original concern I had when it was introduced. They explicitly said that hitting red in the meter would generate a catchable pass but be off target. EA made so may smart design decisions with this game. Making the ball still catchable no matter how badly you time the meter was not one of those smart decisions.

I am also in that minority.

I get what you mean about every pass theoretically being catchable (though I still throw a few per game that aren't), but in practice, I don't think I'd enjoy having half my passes be uncatchable because I'm bad at timing the meter.

What difficulty level do you use and do you adjust pass accuracy slider? When the game initially came out I was running All American and pass accuracy somewhere around 30. It seemed like the slider didn’t have any impact on off target throws. But then I stepped away from the game for about a month or so and picked it back up a couple weeks ago. I haven’t adjusted any settings and now I am seeing a few off targets with revamped.

When I use revamped I definitely get off target throws. But I use small lead bc I find deep balls difficult to lead without that setting. I’m mostly placement and accuracy. Only thing I hate about that is I get more inaccurate throws on easy passes. But I can make some nasty throws too. Sometimes I wonder what passing type might be best depending on style of play. For example I think if your a pass heavy guy you gotta go placement and accuracy bc of the throws it allows you to make. But I’m a run heavy or at least run balanced guy. Sometimes I think I might benefit from revamped or classic bc I really don’t need to make many throws in tight spaces bc my guys are often open bc I run so much
