    Penalties - By Who

I was curious if anyone keeps track of the Penalties by their players and if they see a direct correlation to awareness with the players who commit the most penalties or anything else.

It would be helpful to know if there is any benefit from starting a lower rated offensive lineman with a high awareness (SR) over a young stud with lower awareness (FR or SO) because they get stupid penalties.

Looking more to see if anyone has tracked as opposed to just feeling like it's one way or the other. If someone is seeing a really high correlation I may actually raise holding back up from 58 to 60 to get a few more penalties if I can mute it a bit with higher awareness players.

I will say it sure seems like as you raise the holding penalties it leads to way more outside runs that break big getting called back regardless of ratings but can't be sure.

I wish they kept track of this in the stats and I have been thinking of doing it myself but just haven't got around to it yet so was curious if anyone else has.

I haven’t checked the stats to see if it works as intended, but players have a trait which is supposed to determine how penalty prone they are. I don’t know if their “penalty tendency” trait correlates with their AWR rating.

But if you’re looking to start guys that’re less prone to penalties, then I’d suggest comparing their penalty tendency traits.

Unless they fixed it or improved it, that trait really didn't mean anything in the history of Madden. Never tracked it in this game, but in a few Maddens I did and I had more flags called on disciplined players then undisciplined.

Do you remember if the guys who had more penalties had lower awareness ?

Some did, some didn't, it wasn't always a 1 to 1 correlation. With false start, usually though the lower awareness linemen jumped.

I noticed the trait performed the same for me in cfb 25 and madden. It’s most noticeable with offensive linemen. I’ve had several 90+ovr OL that contribute 90% of the penalties alone on my line. The disciplined guys do not get flagged as much.. (I play with slightly boosted penalty ratings from default, just for reference). AWR definitely plays a role in penalties, too.

Other positions are not as obvious, like with OL, but I’ve noticed the penalty tendency trait working as it should over the years.
