Watching people play a Golf Simulator?

I have about 50 things I'd rather do on a given day than spend time watching that

(maybe it's just me ... zero interest whatsoever)

This whole TGL idea seems like it's a significant misunderstanding of what drives interest in golf/sports, but it could be I'm out of the loop or too traditionalist.

The only thing that really interests me with TGL is that the PGA 2K official Twitter account has been replying and retweeting TGL posts for the last day or two...I'm wondering if a teaser trailer for the new 2K game will be released/shown during the TGL opener tonight.

Not holding my breath, as they tend to miss out on taking advantage of making an announcement in conjunction with a real-world golf event. But maybe we get lucky...haha

I think it more points to Tiger being on the cover again

I think the assumption even before 2K23 was that Tiger was their cover guy for the foreseeable future, as he signed a "long-term exclusive" deal with 2K.

Tiger's team isn't even playing in the TGL opener...which I found kind of odd that he wouldn't be out there at the start to draw people in on night one. Wonder if he'll still be in attendance.

EDIT - He and Rory are both there tonight.

                    Re: TGL Golf

I watched it. It was mildly compelling for what it was. I think that a lot of the initial interest, however, is just tuning in to see what the heck this thing even is. Once that initial curiosity goes away, it's hard for me to see this as a compelling longer term prospect. This seems to me like it would work as a 1-off or off-season novelty.

Obviously I can only speak for myself, but a lot of the reason I watch golf on TV is for the beautiful HD (or, preferably, 4K!) visuals of fantastically manicured golf courses and areas of the country I will likely never visit in person. Those gorgeous drone shots of Hawaii, or Pebble, or Palm Desert in the dead of winter everywhere else in the country, Augusta flowering in the spring, or Pinehurst in full summer bloom, etc. - that's a lot of the draw for me. The actual golf is more or less secondary in most cases, barring major championships.

If you take all of that away, what you're left with is pretty much guys hitting balls into a screen. Not overly compelling, in my opinion.

                      Exact same for me

Watching golfers play on a simulator, for me, is right up there with watching them go play at Topgolf …. Zero interest

I'd be interested in seeing the drop-off (if any) in viewership between night 1 and subsequent nights of TGL. I think the first one did a really good number (a million or thereabouts?), but I completely forgot it existed after that first broadcast.

Tiger Woods is playing tonight...I'd imagine that would have an impact. Tonight is just the second night of it.

I had rather watch this than the NBA.

But it could use some work..

Just got this in the GolfWRX Morning 9 email newsletter:

Field Level Media…”Tiger Woods was routed at his own game Tuesday night, but his defeat was still more appealing to sports fans than the NBA."

"Woods' TGL debut was watched by more than 1 million viewers, up 9% from the league's first match last week and more head-to-head than the NBA drew on TNT."

"For the second consecutive week, the TGL produced a one-sided match with Woods' Jupiter Links Golf Club falling 12-1 to the Los Angeles Golf Club. Albeit in the new virtual golf league, it marked Woods' first competitive golf since missing the cut at the Open Championship last July."

"Tuesday's match peaked at 1.13 million viewers from 8:30 to 8:45 p.m. ET, according to the Sports Business Journal. The match technically ended at 8:50 p.m. and the telecast ended at 9:18 p.m."
