Starting a fight mid play

It's ridiculous that players can just abandon the game and refs will call a whistle for them. I guess its for the injury stoppage but it doesnt happen until a player completely abandons the play to go start a fight. Its so frustrating to have a 2v0 breakway and have play halted

That's how it works. When the team in control of the puck commits a penalty, the whistle is blown. Since both participants in a fight are committing a penalty, play stops.

Your issue is with the sport and not EA in this case.

The one thing that is missing though, is that there's never an actual penalty on the play that injures the other player (or none that I've seen at least).

I 100% get that a lot of injuries happen on clean plays, but there isn't even an instigator call when someone jumps in to fight.
