LEFT - Jeffrey Arnoux got off to a slow start, but would finish with 414 yards and 3 touchdowns, although a late pick six severely hurt the Tigers comeback hopes.
CENTER - Deron Wusu slamming the door shut for good with a 31 yard pick six as Syracuse closed the game on a 21-0 run.
RIGHT - Clemson came back from a 28-7 deficit partly thanks to this hail mary to end the 2nd half that made it 28-14 at the break.

Clemson, SC. - #1 Syracuse continued to dominate in their early-season stretch, overpowering #11 Clemson 49-21 in Death Valley behind a strong performance from freshman quarterback Immanuel Hendrix and a late defensive surge.

Hendrix wasted no time making an impact in his first true road start, launching a 67-yard touchdown pass to tight end Danny Pace on his first attempt of the game. The Orange struck again later in the quarter when Tevin Westerman powered in from a yard out, giving Syracuse an early 14-0 advantage. Clemson responded in the second quarter with a touchdown pass from Jeffrey Arnoux to Clay Felton, but Hendrix answered with a 13-yard strike to Dalton Wear to push the lead back to 14. The Tigers managed to claw back before halftime on a miraculous Hail Mary grab by Amani Urban, cutting the deficit to 28-14 at the break.

Clemson carried that momentum into the third quarter with a methodical 10-play drive, capped by Urban’s second touchdown of the day, bringing the Tigers within one score. Syracuse stalled offensively, punting the ball back, but a crucial third-down sack forced Clemson into a 52-yard field goal attempt, which sailed wide left. That missed opportunity proved to be the turning point.

Syracuse finally broke through again early in the fourth, capping off a grinding seven-play drive with JC Hoag’s one-yard touchdown plunge on a direct snap. With the lead back to two scores, the Orange defense took over. Clemson failed on a critical fourth-and-9 from their own 32, leading to a short Syracuse drive that ended in a 21-yard touchdown pass to Lee Browner. On Clemson’s next possession, Arnoux threw a costly interception to Deron Wusu, who returned it 31 yards for a touchdown, putting the game out of reach at 49-21.

Arnoux and the Tigers tried to salvage some pride, marching down the field in the closing minutes, but another failed fourth-down conversion allowed Syracuse to run out the clock. Hendrix finished the day 14-of-22 for 268 yards and three touchdowns, while Hoag anchored the ground attack with multiple short-yardage scores amid 124 total yards. The Syracuse defense made their presence felt, tallying four sacks and delivering the game-sealing pick-six.

Elsewhere, former Syracuse head coach Nash Savage’s old program, Ball State, secured their first-ever Big 12 win, knocking off SMU 48-28 despite another turnover-laden outing from quarterback Titus Awe, who now has 12 interceptions on the season.

Syracuse remains on the road next week, heading to Chestnut Hill for a rivalry showdown with #16 Boston College, as the Orange look to keep their unbeaten streak alive.

LEFT - After putting Syracuse on the board with a 48 yard TD, Dalton Wear added to his highlight day with a 64 yard punt return TD, reversing field with a spin move before accelerating into the open field.
CENTER - The biggest play of the game for Boston College was the 1st, intercepting FR QB Immanuel Hendrix's 1st pass of the day. Things would only go downhill from there for the home team.
RIGHT - Maybe throw the ball away, instead of trying to out leverage the NCAA sack leader? Instead, Veasy recorded the safety as Syracuse racked up 3 sacks and two interceptions in the 1st quarter alone.

Boston, MA. - No. 1 Syracuse delivered a statement win on the road, overwhelming No. 16 Boston College in a 71-7 rout. The Orange wasted no time asserting their dominance, racing out to a 33-0 lead in the first quarter and never looking back as their defense suffocated the Eagles while the offense put on a show.

Boston College initially showed signs of life when linebacker Daniel Frayer intercepted freshman quarterback Immanuel Hendrix on the very first pass of the game. However, the Eagles failed to capitalize, opting for an ill-advised 57-yard field goal attempt that sailed wide left. Syracuse responded in ruthless fashion. Two plays later, Hendrix connected with Dalton Wear for a 48-yard touchdown, torching the Boston College secondary and igniting an avalanche of Orange scoring.

Wear struck again on special teams, fielding a punt and reversing direction with a spin move before sprinting 64 yards to the end zone. The defense kept the momentum rolling when safety Tyree Kight jumped a quick out route for a 25-yard pick-six, and the relentless Syracuse pass rush forced a safety to push the lead to 23-0. Before the first quarter ended, Tyrell Sands added a short rushing score, and Desmond Brewer knocked through a 38-yard field goal to cap off a blistering opening stanza.

Syracuse’s defense continued its dominance in the second quarter, as Ernie McHugh returned an interception 37 yards for a touchdown. Sands added his second rushing score of the day, and Hendrix found Trenton Gilliam for a nine-yard touchdown pass, extending the halftime lead to 54-0.

The second half was merely a formality, but Syracuse remained in control. Hendrix tossed his third touchdown pass of the night, finding Carlos Simms for a five-yard score in the third quarter. In the final frame, Brewer nailed a 48-yard field goal before Boston College finally broke through with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Charles Swartz to Marvin Thrash. However, the Eagles’ celebration was short-lived, as Lee Browner capped off the onslaught with a 15-yard touchdown run to put the finishing touches on the 71-7 demolition.

The Syracuse defense was relentless, finishing the game with six sacks and three interceptions while holding Boston College to a mere 135 yards of total offense. Hendrix rebounded from his early interception to finish with a solid performance, leading the offense efficiently as Syracuse remained unbeaten.

Elsewhere in the college football landscape, No. 2 Ball State continued its strong start in the Big 12, securing a 31-14 victory over No. 8 Houston behind a flawless performance from Titus Awe, who threw for 342 yards, four touchdowns, and no turnovers.

Syracuse will now return home to host rival West Virginia next week, looking to continue their dominant march through the season.

That has to be the greatest performance of any post.i have seen in regards to a 1st Quarter score and probably half time score. 2 Pick 6 returns and a Punt Returm. The whole team was playing lights out

Up 54-0 at the half I do question why Hendrix was eleven still in the game. Seems like it would've been a great opportunity to play the backups

After the opening INT I was ready for a grind, then all of a sudden 5 minutes later we have a 30 point lead. It was one of the craziest sequences I've ever had. And I'm playing on Heisman now, so doubly surprised.

Hendrix was in to throw on 3rd down situations just so he could get the extra stats / XP points. In hindsight, I should have put McKinney in just to get a look at him, rather than Seri who I already know what he brings.

Whoop! as the great Chris Berman would say. JC Hoag continues to pace the nation in rushing yardage with another 170 yards including this 24 yard score.

LEFT - WVU got tricky on their first drive with the WR reverse pass from Kevin Lodish to Mac Kosar for the 65 yard score. WVU would try the play two more times in the contest, both resulting in TFLs.
CENTER - After three straight holding calls left the Orange facing 2nd and 38, HC Nash Savage said screw it and dialed up the deep post for Ware, who continued his spectacular freshman campaign with the 56 yard TD.
RIGHT - Scott Martino rallied the Mountaineers late for consecutive scoring drives in the 4th, but the effort came too late in the 42-31 defeat.

Syracuse, NY. - #2 Syracuse remained unbeaten, fending off a late charge from West Virginia to secure a 42-31 home victory. Freshman quarterback Immanuel Hendrix wasted no time making an impact, opening the game with a 58-yard strike to tight end Danny Pace. However, West Virginia responded in dramatic fashion, dialing up a wide receiver reverse pass that saw Kevin Lodish find Mac Kosar for a 65-yard touchdown. Syracuse answered right back, overcoming a series of costly holding penalties before Hendrix connected with Dalton Wear on a 56-yard touchdown bomb to reclaim the lead.

Hendrix continued his first-half dominance, orchestrating another scoring drive in the second quarter, hitting Trenton Gilliam on a 32-yard touchdown pass. After West Virginia cut the lead to 21-14 with just 44 seconds left in the half, Hendrix quickly struck again, launching a 58-yard pass to Carlos Simms before capping off the drive with a 4-yard touchdown to Pace, giving Syracuse a commanding 28-14 halftime lead.

Syracuse kept rolling in the third quarter, as JC Hoag powered in a 24-yard touchdown run before Gilliam added a 1-yard score, pushing the lead to 42-17. West Virginia, however, refused to go quietly, responding with a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, including a 17-yard grab by Rob Morris to cut the deficit to 42-31. The Mountaineers attempted an onside kick with two minutes remaining, but Syracuse recovered and ran out the clock to seal the win.

Hendrix finished the day with another stellar performance, completing 15 of 21 passes for 338 yards and four touchdowns without a turnover. On the other side, West Virginia quarterback Scott Martino put together a solid effort, throwing for 261 yards and two touchdowns on 26-of-34 passing.

Meanwhile, #2 Ball State survived a high-scoring thriller against Nebraska, pulling out a 52-50 victory. The Cardinals jumped out to a 38-20 halftime lead before Nebraska stormed back, capitalizing on two interceptions from Titus Awe to close the gap to 38-36. Awe responded with back-to-back touchdown passes, which proved to be the difference, as Nebraska’s last-minute touchdown wasn’t enough to complete the comeback.

Syracuse will now shift its focus to a revenge matchup on the road against Maryland, the only team to defeat the Orange during last season’s National Championship run.

After Immanuel Hendrix's 2nd INT of the 1st half, Maryland took over with under 30 seconds remaining in the 2nd Q, but got aggressive hoping for a field goal to narow the margin. Instead, a quick out turned into a pick six as SS Layne Smith jumped the route and walked unimpeded into the endzone.

LEFT - One of two 1st half interceptions thrown by Immanuel Hendrix, attempting a deep shot on 2nd a 1 that resulted in a leaping INT.
CENTER - Maryland was grinding back into the game and facing a 3rd and 16 from midfield, HC Nash Savage turned to his FR QB to once again make a play. He recognized the blitz and as soon as WR Dalton Wear had the release, let it fly for the game sealing 52 yard TD.
RIGHT - Maryland came out of the break with a quick strike after WR Noah Teague put the DB on his hip and out leveraged him to the sideline for the 75 yard score.

College Park, MD. - #2 Syracuse avenged last season’s lone defeat with a 41-22 road victory over Maryland, overcoming an early deficit and a pair of first-half turnovers to remain unbeaten. The Terps struck with a 15-yard touchdown run from Jaren Freeman, while Syracuse managed only a field goal in the opening quarter.

However, the Orange erupted in the second quarter, as freshman quarterback Immanuel Hendrix shook off an early interception to throw two touchdown passes—one to Tyrell Sands and another to tight end Danny Pace. Just before halftime, Maryland had a chance to cut into the lead, but their aggression backfired. Safety Layne Smith jumped a short out route and took it 50 yards to the house as the clock expired, sending Syracuse into the break with a commanding 24-7 lead.

Syracuse continued its dominance to open the second half, with JC Hoag weaving through the defense for a 37-yard touchdown run. Maryland answered quickly when Noah Teague turned a short curl route into a 75-yard score, cutting the lead to 31-15. The Terps struck again in the fourth quarter, trimming the deficit to 34-22 after Max Alford punched in a short touchdown run.

With just under two minutes to play and facing a third-and-16, Syracuse head coach Nash Savage put the game in his young quarterback’s hands. Hendrix responded under pressure, recognizing the blitz and firing a perfect strike to Dalton Wear, who torched his defender for a 52-yard touchdown to seal the game.

Syracuse’s defense was relentless, recording five sacks and two interceptions while keeping Maryland’s offense in check. Hendrix finished the day with 367 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions on 25-of-34 passing. On the other side, Maryland quarterback Nick Faulk struggled against the Orange’s pressure, throwing for 246 yards, one touchdown, and two picks.

Elsewhere, Ball State continued its Big 12 dominance with a 63-20 demolition of #11 Missouri, as quarterback Titus Awe lit up the Tigers with 478 yards and six touchdowns, overcoming three turnovers in the process.

With last year’s Maryland loss now behind them, Syracuse returns home to the JMA Dome next week for a rivalry showdown against the struggling Pittsburgh Panthers (3-6).

The 🍊 are rolling.. somehow I glanced over just how good Ball Stare has been with the move to the Big 12. The North looks tough though so I think they got some great games coming up.

Looks like Toledo was the real winner with Ball State moving on. If they can keep winning they might have a shot at a playoff seed and finally a MAC Championship.

Nice.to see Boise State playing well and Oregon not.

Will be interesting to see if you can pull off a Ball State vs Syracuse Natty. Looks like TAMU could.use Coach Savage to become a relevant in the SEC again. You would think Florida would want to get back to winning Natty's as well.

Wear is making a huge difference. Even back in my USC chise, a speedy slot WR has always been a key to my offenses. We had it with Onwualu at Ball State, but never really had it with Syracuse until Wear came on the scene. He was only a 74 to start the season, but his speed ratings plus COD make him lethal in the open field.

Ball State is sitll rolling, but the turnovers still tend to bite Awe which is weird. I do play more of an open style offensively with Ball State, with Syracuse running waaay more, but even still for Hendrix to have 5 INTs on the season and Awe 14 is head scratching. Kansas State is goint o be tough next week and then Arkansas is likely going to be the game for the division if we both keep pace.

Yeah Toledo was always right there with Ball State, just couldn't get over the hump. reminded me of the Bills vs the Chiefs, always right there but couldn't get over the big bad. This might finally be their year, but CMU is still hanging around and they made the CFP last year.

I'm always rooting for BSU and always rooting against Oregon, so the pac-12 results have been nice to see.

We had a shot last two years at a Ball State / Syracuse match up and Ball State fumbled the bag, we'll see if they can get it done this year.

As for SEC coaches, I've got a interview with McAfee I'm about to post that talks about it as well. but there are a few schools that will be needing new coaches. In the last sim forward I did Georgia actually offered Coach Savage, with LSU, Florida, A&M, and Ole Miss firing their coaches. So I feel pretty confident I could get one of those offers if I changed schemes to match.

BUT I'm still divided on it. Before the season I would have said if I got an SEC offer I'll take it, but Hendrix has been the real deal. Do I want to chase the SEC dream and potentially give up another two nattys with a potentially generational QB? But then again I run the risk of staying at Syracuse and not getting another offer I like from the SEC.

For the record my short list before the season was Texas, A&M, Ole Miss, or Florida. LSU has got me intrigued, but they were also just in the national championship two years ago and I'd rather build someone up that hasn't been there than take over an established contender. A&M and Ole Miss fit that too a T. Florida, Georgia, and Texas have been in and out of the CFP over the last 5 years, but never made it farther than the Semis.

Nash Savage Joins the Pat McAfee Show

PM: Ladies and gentlemen, our next guest is a man who truly needs no introduction… but screw it, I’m giving him one anyway! He’s one of only four coaches EVER to win a National Championship with two different programs, he’s got a jaw-dropping 80-5 record in just over five seasons, and—unfortunately for me as a Mountaineers fan—he’s been a thorn in my side every step of the way. Give it up for Syracuse head coach Nash Savage!

NS: Hell of an intro, Pat. Always bringing the heat. And listen, I might just add a little extra sting to your WVU pain with this one. Everybody knows when Syracuse first reached out, they weren’t even on my radar. But there was one job I did have my eye on before I ever set foot on campus.

                            PM: Don’t. You. Dare.

NS: Yep—West Virginia. If they had come calling before Syracuse? Who knows how things play out. Now, if they approached me after Syracuse, I still would’ve chosen the Orange. But if they got to me first? Different story.

PM: I was already hurting from that absolute beatdown you gave WVU a few weeks ago, and now I find out my own guys fumbled the bag before you ever hit the market? Oh, I’m making some calls after this. Unbelievable.

Alright, moving on from my personal agony as a Mountaineers alum—Coach, you’ve built an absolute monster in Syracuse. 29-2, two ACC titles, a Natty. But despite all that, the rumor mill is spinning hard about some big SEC programs looking your way this offseason.

NS: Well, that probably goes back to that interview I did a few years ago with the Ball State Daily where I said coaching in the SEC was the ultimate goal. And listen, that dream’s still there, I won’t lie. But I also love what we’ve built in Syracuse. I look at this team, and I see multiple championship runs in our future.

PM: So, are you shutting the door on those SEC rumors right now?

NS: Not exactly, Pat. It’s not just about any SEC job—it’s about the right offer, the right team, and the right time. And I won’t know that until the opportunity actually presents itself.

PM: Well, word on the street is that Georgia, Florida, Texas A&M, and maybe even Ole Miss are gonna be in the market for a head coach. Any of those the "right team"?

NS: Can’t say until the offers come in. I’m in the last year of my deal, so buyouts won’t be an issue. But like I said—I’m only leaving if I believe I can build another championship program like we have in Syracuse.

PM: Safe to assume a certain freshman phenom has a lot to do with your confidence in sticking around?

NS: Oh, no doubt. Quarterback is everything in college football. Look at the past two years—Cox struggles filling in for an injured Jakhari Williams? We lose. Then he steps up in the National Championship when Seri was struggling, and boom—we win it all.

PM: Speaking of Seri—plenty of people thought he’d hit the portal after getting benched in the playoffs. What kept him in Syracuse?

NS: The guy’s a competitor, Pat. I told him straight up—he’d have a chance to compete with Immanuel and win back the job. Worst case? He shows he’s a great teammate, and he’s got his senior season to go start somewhere else. But hey, who knows? Last year, Cox was riding the bench all season until we needed him, and he delivered. Same thing could happen for Seri.

PM: Back to Hendrix—or as we’ve started calling him, "Himmanuel." First off, what’s your favorite nickname for the kid? And more importantly, how’s he handling this meteoric rise to stardom?

NS: "Voodoo Child." Perfect mix of a Hendrix tribute and his whole vibe. The kid is just unshakable. True freshman, starting QB for the defending champs, and you’d think he’s been doing this for years. Nothing rattles him.

PM: We’ve talked before about how locked-in you and Kadin Semonza were when attacking defenses. Do you see that same connection between Kadin—now your passing game coordinator—and Immanuel?

NS: 100%. And it shows on the field. Immanuel already came in a film junkie, but getting paired with Kadin? That obsession with preparation went through the roof.

PM: And it’s spreading, too. That connection between Hendrix and Dalton Wear looks borderline telepathic at times. That touchdown last week against Maryland—was that the call, or did Immanuel audible that on the fly?

NS: Bit of both. We had verts dialed up, but those two have the same chemistry Kadin and Nyck [Harbor] had. Immanuel saw the safety blitz, gave Wear a look, and boom—Dalton bent the route into a post. At that point, it was like running a drill on air. That’s why I made them roommates—wanted that chemistry off the field too.

And man, Dalton is the only receiver I’ve ever had show up to QB film sessions every week. You can see that work paying off on Saturdays.

PM: You’re rolling, but Miami’s been just as dominant. That final game of the season, Syracuse vs. Miami in the JMA Dome, could be for all the marbles. If it comes down to it—how confident are you that you’re the team standing?

NS: Look, we’re three weeks away from that showdown, and there’s a lot of ball left. But if it does come down to that game? Hell yes, I’m confident. I’ll put my guys up against any team in the country. But it’s football, Pat—any given Sunday. No one expected us to lose to Maryland last year, but that loss galvanized us for the stretch run.

PM: Alright, last question before we hit a commercial break—Ball State. 8-0. Just dismantled Missouri. If they make the playoffs, there’s a real shot at a Syracuse vs. Ball State showdown. What would that mean to you?

NS: Emotional, no doubt. I was only in Muncie for three years, but it shaped me as a coach. And with Kadin on our staff now? Yeah, he’d have some feelings about that one too.

But listen—Ball State wants another Natty? They’re gonna have to go through us. You've got to beat the best to be the best.

PM: Coach, always a pleasure. Can’t wait to have you back on.

                            NS: Anytime, Pat.

Hendrix lit a fire after a slow start (6/11, 29 yards, INT) finishing the day on a 18/21 streak for 429 yards and 5 TDs.

LEFT - SO FS Corbin Houghtaling with the clutch INT to keep Pittsburgh from adding to their 7-0 lead.
CENTER - CB Alex D'Imperio contributing to Hendrix & Co's slow start with the INT in the 1st quarter.
RIGHT - Dalton Wear showing off his moves in the open field on one of his two 2nd half TDs.

Syracuse, NY. - Syracuse overcame a sluggish start to dominate Pittsburgh 42-10, extending their unbeaten season to 9-0. The Panthers struck first with a 17-yard touchdown run from Carson Crisp after the Orange turned the ball over on downs deep in Pitt territory. Things worsened for Syracuse when Immanuel Hendrix was intercepted on a deep pass attempt, but safety Corbin Houghtaling responded with a critical end-zone interception to keep the deficit at just seven. Pittsburgh had multiple chances to extend their lead, but a missed 27-yard field goal and a stalled red-zone trip left the door open.

Syracuse finally broke through late in the second quarter when Hendrix connected with Danny Pace on a 55-yard touchdown pass to tie the game. The Panthers answered with a field goal to reclaim a 10-7 lead, but Hendrix engineered a lightning-fast drive, hitting Dalton Wear for gains of 25 and 43 yards before finding JC Hoag on a perfectly executed screen pass as time expired in the half, giving Syracuse a 14-10 lead at the break.

The Orange seized full control in the third quarter. Backed up at their own 4-yard line after a series of holding penalties, Hendrix found Felix Redwine for 16 yards to create breathing room. Two plays later, he hit Pace on a wheel route up the sideline for a stunning 78-yard touchdown, sparking an offensive explosion. Syracuse added two more third-quarter touchdowns—a 10-yard rush by Trenton Gilliam and a 49-yard strike to Wear—to extend their lead to 35-10. Hendrix closed out the scoring with a 34-yard touchdown pass to Wear in the fourth quarter while the defense locked Pitt down, allowing just 72 total yards in the second half.

Hendrix rebounded from a rough start, finishing 24/34 for 458 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 1 interception after beginning just 6/11 for 29 yards. Syracuse’s pass rush overwhelmed Pitt QB Mac Munyer, sacking him six times and forcing an interception. Star running back JC Hoag left early in the third quarter with a foot contusion but was held out as a precaution despite being cleared to return.

Elsewhere, Ball State continued to make waves in the Big 12 with a dominant 49-19 win over Kansas State, handing the Wildcats their third straight loss after a 6-0 start.

Syracuse looks to keep rolling next week as they travel to face Virginia (5-4).
