Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows: AC Japan

I’ve played almost 20 hours, am level 14 with Noue and have yet to unlock the brute lol. I don’t have auto assassinate on. Early on in the game I was dying quite a bit since you only have one weapon type, crappy armour and no special abilities.

I have all 3 weapons for her now and I love the short blades/teppo(?). The Katana is a bit boring. The swinging chain thing is cool but I don’t have any special abilities for that weapon. With the small blades I have a double assassination move unlocked, plus two special fighting moves which include an over powered auto block for 7 seconds. That allows you to be a badass in a crowd because with her your normal combat early on is largely stealth or 1v1. If you take on 3+ enemies early on you are dead. Some bonus abilities like getting an extra shurikin/stars after an assassination are nice. Lots of ways to build up your character in specific ways.

The auto scaling is fine as once you get more powerful the average bad guy is toast. Elites can be hard and you can’t assassinate them although maybe if I level up that skill tree more. And I would never want to take on an enemy more than maybe 1-2 above me. Anyone 5+ levels above me is gonna smoke me.

The story is good, I’ve settled into a groove and tons of places to go and things to do. I’ve been looking forward to an open world game where I can relax, pick up and play when I want and enjoy. This game doesn’t do anything revolutionary and that’s fine. It’s fun.

Quick question as I am not on my game right now, but I've noticed some baddies attacks will light up blue, I'm guessing the red ones I've seen are attacks that can't be blocked, wasn't Odyssey like that?...

It's the blue flashes that I don't remember seeing in past games.

BTW, this game is absolutely amazing, Ubi (imo) really knocked it out of the park, but then again, I enjoy their games and don't have a hate boner against them or their games.
People are for reviews if it backs their argument, and against them when they don't.

Blue means you can block or parry the attack. Red is you cannot block it and you need to dodge it.

The katana is boring for Naoe early on, I will say all the way until you reach level 3 or 4 on the knowledge tree and unlock the good abilities for it for her. Early on I relied on the Tanto and then the ball & chain weapon. That ball and chain weapon is pretty good for crowd control when you unlock the good abilities for it. At first I was like Naoe is useless as hell, than I realized she is suppose to be the stealth character, so you have to go at a slower pace with her.

Once I came to terms with that, Naoe is pretty useful for robbing castles and temples. Her smoke bomb is pretty handed. My only gripe is that I wish the shuriken do as much damage as the throwing knives do.

65 1/12 hours and the main storyline is complete. One hell of a ride. The ending I will give a 9 out of 10. The game itself, overall, all things considered, a 10 out of 10. The seasons were excellent. The combat was good. Boss fights were good and didn't feel cheesy. Selection of weapons and armor styles were good. Skill trees were nicely laid out and pretty easy to understand what path led to what. Back story on both the characters were excellent. Yasuke back story, good lord. You don't get to do his to near the end of the game.

Now I have plenty of side quests to do, but yeah this is currently my Game of The Year.

Also definitely the best Assassins Creed in the entire series, yes even better than Black Flag. Unlike other games in the series, this game slow rolls out the plot. You think you have it figured out and who is who and than a few hours later, you find out you were wrong.

            Spoiler

Also love the fact there are a wide variety of weapons Yasuke and Naoe can use. They really do have something for every play style you can imagine.
I am about 45 hours in and at level 37. I play story mode with the canon option as I just want to see the story Ubisoft crafted. I just discovered that I lost a few potential allies by not being able to pick dialog options. I'd recommend people not play with the canon option on if they want every potential ally in their hideout.

It's crazy how this far in the game now and I am just now getting to the Assassin/Templar plot line. I was under the impression that Yasuke was just brute option and not really a factor in the main story but things really pick up about level 37.

Just seen that it cannot be turned off or on once you have started the game, I can't remember which option I selected, and I sure as hell ain't starting over...lol

If it’s anything like mine, the only option I have is selecting Noae or Yasuke for a mission. Everything else the game decides. A little disclaimer when choosing the canon option would have been nice. At least then we’d know what was up.

Unless I’m missing something this game does a piss poor job of laying out the objectives. I had a main story mission but since I tracked a side quest and started raiding a couple castles I forgot about it. I am trying to unlock Yasuke and I’m trying to find the mission for him. Searching the actual map is tedious. If I untracked a mission there should be a mission list to check somewhere. If I’m blind please point me in the right direction.

You go to the objective screen and boom, an entire page of objectives will appear. You need to check it often because talking to people can open up an entire circle of objectives just for that 1 person.

Yeah I too was surprised how late in the game that you finally get to their plotline. But yeah Yasuke is essential to the storyline, even though half the game you really don't play as him and his personal quests happen later on in the game as well.

I do that but this main story mission wasn’t anywhere.

You have to complete The Wounded and The Golden Teppo targets. Kill both of them and than go back to the hide out and another objective quest line will start leading you on your way to Yasuke.

I was waiting for the PSSR update to play this game.
