Re: PGA 2K25 vs EA Sports PGA Tour
Voted 2K.
PGA 2K25
Pros
- course designer/lots of user created courses to play
- cross-platform play
- societies (including TGCTours)
- Evo swing is quite fun
- graphics improved from previous 2K games
- has 3 of the 4 majors
Cons
- missing The Masters
- graphics still don't feel "next-gen"
- really small selection of gear/clubs/clothing
- MyCareer has leaderboard issues, and gets old fast - the new "Composure" and "Followers" system has zero impact on really anything
- lots of nagging bugs and issues that affect many areas of the game (societies, Quests, MyCareer, etc.)
- the whole "VC nerf at launch" debacle
EA PGA Tour
Pros:
- all four majors, including The Masters and Augusta, and the Ryder Cup
- next-gen graphics
- lots of gear and equipment
- solid career mode
- lots of challenges to do
Cons:
- gameplay feels like "golf on rails"
- RNG means your shots go anywhere within a dispersion zone
- some shot types are very overpowered and are super arcade-y
- rough has basically little to no impact
- online modes are lacking, no cross-play
- it's no longer being supported, and there's no sign of any more EA golf to comeLast edited by MrArlingtonBeach; 04-08-2025, 08:48 AM.Orbis Non SuficitComment

Re: PGA 2K25 vs EA Sports PGA Tour
I wish we could put 2K's swing mechanics, lie/rough penalties, and online components into EA golf. That would be my ultimate golf game.
I also am not a fan of all the "shot types" in either game.
As it stands, 2K25 is probably my favorite golf game ever. Tiger Woods 13 would probably be close if it could be remastered and without load times but 2K25 has the best swing components in any golf game. You can feel when you made a bad swing and there is direct cause and effect. It just feels good. I love the pace of the game (no loading, waiting around, etc.). Hopefully they keep working on career mode (more real courses, rotating majors, The Masters, better AI scoring, etc ).
I am enjoying 2K25. I need to give the career mode and better chance perhaps as I find myself playing online modes most of the time. I also think they need to come up with some sort of handicap system for the ranked tournaments so players that are mediocre like myself can compete against fellow mediocre players (like TGC Tours with their different levels).
I have said it before, but EA Golf just kind of makes me angry. They have a decent game here but then they throw in some of the worst swing mechanics in golf game history. I would have settled for an old Links 386 3 click if it was challenging and had no randomness (instead they give us the slowest 3 click meter ever and a swing stick swing where it feels like work to not hit it straight and some random landing windows.....and virtually no penalties for sand/rough). The gameplay is just not compelling for me.Comment

It'd be fun if they were both in active development and competing head to head.
As it is, it's hard to not have opinions be colored a bit by one being much newer and in totally active mode ... with the other being abandonware now.Comment

Re: PGA 2K25 vs EA Sports PGA Tour
My opinion really doesn't matter here, but I just hate the 2k golf games. They look horrible, sound horrible, I lose interest after a day or two. Sometimes you just have preferences, and 2k really is not a preference. Sure EA has its critics, and some issues, but it pales in comparison to me of the issues 2k golf has. The only thing I somewhat like in 2k is course creator, but after you do it once, and play it, again, the fun factor isn't there, I just lose interest and what ever money I paid for it. For those that like it, great!!! Keep enjoying. I am not trying to change anyone's mind here...
I am sure this gets crucified by some loyal 2k fans, and like I said, if you like the game, great, keep on keeping on.If you keep bowing down and praising the developers, (NHL series) nothing they give us the consumer will ever be a "finished" product. Take a stand, it is your money!!!.Comment

Re: PGA 2K25 vs EA Sports PGA Tour
After playing 2K25 last weekend, I agree with above and I prefer EA for the same reasons. 2K is a better golf game, you get what you hit which is not always the case with EA, too much RNG and the ball is going all over the place even against cross wind sometimes. But somehow, 2K is boring me in no time. All HB games since the beginning did that for me.
I have not been playing EA much lately, tournaments are broken since Apr 1. You play, all your stats are wiped out automatically and your ranking is 0 like you have never play a tournament since the game came out. Same for head to head online, we're playing for nothing.Comment

Re: PGA 2K25 vs EA Sports PGA Tour
I agree with the majority of this. However, since 2k21, 2k has just gotten too predatory for my liking to say I enjoy their game more. I feel like I spend way too much time in the menus just trying to get to a game whereas EA PGA Tour wasn't so "in your face, spend money" that I am able to get on the course in much less time and without frustrations.Voted 2K.

Re: PGA 2K25 vs EA Sports PGA Tour
2K is the home of TGCTours, which makes it infinitely playable until the next version drops. Add on top of that some of the greatest user societies and competitions around and it’s simply no contest. 2K is the far superior game.I am a terrible king.Comment

Re: PGA 2K25 vs EA Sports PGA Tour
As I've said before, the entire thing for me with all 2k games is the wickedly fast back swing, and just zero "feel" for half shots or "touch". You just take a ridiculously fast full swing most of the time, and use the distance marker to compensate for it.
Graphics as well, of course. EA has that over 2k for sure.
But I'm hopeful that the next 2k game, which will likely be the only company in the golf space for the foreseeable future, will be on a nex-gen platform, and the swing mechanics are more realistic, and hopefully even customizable (a slider to have a faster or slower swing).
There's no doubt that 2k25 is a deeper game on the course. Just go to the next platform, and fix the cartoonishly fast swing mechanics, and it's not even close to what EA was so close to achieving before they abandoned it.Comment

Re: PGA 2K25 vs EA Sports PGA Tour
Hello boys!
I feel like we have two very good golf games here, and frankly, I play both equally. Often I'll play one or two rounds on one, then switch to the other for one or two rounds in the same play session.
]I do not play online, just a solo career player here so this is biased towards the solo play experience.
PGA2K25
Pros:
--Simply, there's more to do in terms of a solid career mode and Course Creator, should you decide to put your muni course on your tour
--To build on the tour, you can swap out courses on the '2k', non-real events. This adds a lovely variety and keeps repeated tours from going stale.
--Presentation: Much more camera angles and broadcast-type presentation, like pre-tee off animations, high fiving the caddy, better reaction shots, better broadcast cams (I use dynamic for a mix of follow and broadcast). I also like seeing more of your caddy, and they have your name across their back is a nice touch!
--EVO swing as others have mentioned, feels good and you are in more control of the proceedings that you are with EA's swing system, but with caveats as we'll get to in Cons.
--For my money, much better ball physics than EA. In 2k the ball seems to behave like one. In EA it seems like it's either a greased pig running across and off the greens or a meatball that lands with a splat. Same with the runouts on the fairways for drives and approach shots. Feels more like golf.
--Sound, I like both games for different reasons. 2k, I like the strike sounds better, except for the putter. For EA, I like the cup sound better and the crowd and ambient effects like planes flying overhead and birds and oceans. EA just feels more authentic with those.
--Immersive, almost a draw. I do like the little interview bits in 2k career on my golf journey, and I love all the signage and unique tee box markers for official events in 2k. EA gets a nod for music, a little better commentary, and the extra presentation elements for the Majors.
Cons:
--Leaderboard issues in career mode get a bit wonky...why did I barely win two tourneys ago, and I'm leading the US Open by 20 strokes in the 3rd round now,w/ second place opponent at +2?
--There can be some mechanical problems chipping on crowned greens with rollbacks that are a little much, but I've learned to compensate.
--A bit obvious...but if you've been playing EA, you do miss The Masters/Augusta in your schedule. The course 2k uses is no where near Augusta's level of challenge.
--We're still early in 2k's game, but not enough real courses on the tour yet.
--I'll say it....putting feels better to me in EA's game. In 2k I have to use putt preview a bit more often and can very much still miss, where in EA the grid is good enough to eyeball it and use zero putt previews. Just IMO.
--This is for 2k specifically (because I know the mechanics are there), but generally for both games. How about time of day/lighting be correlating to your tee off times each of the 4 days of your tourneys?
--Equipment...I like the way EA does it better graphically, feels like all of your gear is easier to discern. Also, generic shafts in 2k vs licensed ones in EA, just touches like that help feel like your gear is more personalized and authentic.
EA Sports PGA Tour
Pros:
--Graphics: Have to give the aesthetics nod to EA here, though I believe that 2k made really nice strides with the 2k25 graphics (lighting/colors especially). The gear, grass textures, immense level of course details, large galleries (with people actually walking the pathways). I mean, do an A/B comparison of Pebble Beach.
--Augusta/all four majors. Plus, rotating courses for the two Opens.
--37 real courses, maybe a couple less if you don't count the two par 3 courses, but that's still 35 real courses on the tour in high detail. I like the value of this, but am sad that more will likely not join the roster.
--Also a sometimes unpopular opinion, but I like the swing graphic better in EA, as a slower backswing seems more realistic to me and feels pretty good.
--As mentioned in the 2k list, I prefer putting in EA game. Just feels better in pretty much every way and greens are easier for me to interpret.
--The RNG after a ball strike...it's a pro and a con for me. Con because I like in 2k it goes how you hit. But a pro here is that, well, even in the PGA those guys take their shot, as good as they are, and it goes to the woods for some reason, or in a hazard, but most of the time, goes pretty much where they want it. So the occasional RNG of my shot can aggravate but that feels realistic LOL. I still think it's BARELY a pro, though it's kind of a cheap one and you feel less connected to the game's controls, but it's a mechanic that keeps the unpredictability of golf in your tournaments. Don't hate me for having an opinion
--I like the draw and fade mechanics in the EA game better. Plain and simple, and I feel more like a PGA pro being able to apply them in an easier fashion. And EA's whole deal on this game is to feel like a pro, play with the pros...not be my hack-self out on the tour. I can play like my hack self in 2k if I like on created courses for that more 'weekend warrior' feel which is also a good thing.
--Leaderboards work during tourneys, no weird 20 shot gaps like I've gotten my last two tourney in 2k after the 20 weeks mark!

--Flyovers for every hole.
Cons:
--Cameras, by and large, just not as good as 2k. I have to use the follow cam only, and then use broadcast for around the green for some spice. Also, even in follow cam, the camera angle is too low when it lands. I just feel you don't get to see as much of the beautiful courses and the immersion of that in the EA game as you do in the 2k game. Especially when the EA game is the better looking of the two.
--As mentioned earlier, ball physics to me aren't as good as 2k. Way too hot on the greens/approach shots, not enough on the fairways in the way the ball reacts to the ground. Rocket or meatball feeling. It's an issue, but not a MAJOR detriment.
--As mentioned earlier, EVO swing is more fun in 2k, though I prefer the backswing in EA. 2k game just seems to have a better control connection to the player as a whole.
--While there are a lot of great courses, you can't help but wish for more for more variety season to season. I'd kill to see Oakmont and Spyglass in this game.
Too close to call for me, but I'll vote once I can choose.
Again, this is all from a single player perspective. If I were interested in multiplayer, it would be 2k all the way.GO 'HAWKS!
