Re: 2006 Atlanta Braves Discussion

Quote:
An MRI taken in Atlanta on Thursday morning showed that Braves second baseman Marcus Giles has a sprained ligament in his left middle finger.

Giles, who feared that he might have broken the finger while sliding into second base against the Mets on Tuesday night, will rejoin the Braves for their series against the Nationals in Washington on Friday. Before deciding whether to place him on the disabled list, the club will continue to evaluate him over the weekend.

With shortstop Edgar Renteria likely out until at least Sunday because of a strained left rib cage, the Braves have decided to promote Martin Prado from Double-A Mississippi. The versatile Prado will replenish the infield depth that has been diminished by the injuries suffered by Giles and Renteria.

Giles suffered the injury while sliding into second base in the third inning of Tuesday night's 7-1 win. As he reached safely with his first stolen base of the season his finger was awkwardly bent by either the bag or Mets second baseman Chris Woodward's leg.

In order to make room for Prado, who is hitting .302 for Mississippi, the Braves will send one of their relievers back to Triple-A Richmond. It will likely be Peter Moylan, the right-handed hurler from Australia, who allowed one hit and completed a scoreless inning in his only appearance with Atlanta.
