I was one of the biggest detractors of classic pitching because I could not locate pitches at all (I would just tap X or hold X, but did not hit X again during the release, which is probably everyone's problem who can't locate with classic pitching) but I decided to figure out classic pitching because the CPU just could not hit off me consistently when I used the meter. I read through most of the classic pitching topics but I don’t think anyone posted the proper method of classic pitching (it was not mentioned in the Classic Pitching Help thread at least) or I would have tried it and been using classic pitching for a while now. Classic pitching is not much different from the meter, you just make more mistakes, which is realistic and very welcome. Also, pitching from the stretch is much more difficult.

I Figured Out Classic Pitching!!!
After selecting the pitch and then location (like normal), tap X to start the windup and then tap X again right before the pitcher releases the ball (it’ll only take about an inning or 2 to get the timing down). That will allow you to locate your pitches. It’s just like meter pitching but without the meter being visually there (you start the windup, then need to hit X at the right time for good location). I don’t know how to alter the velocity though, I tried holding X and tapping X during the windup but neither seemed to make a difference, it just screwed up my location whenever I tried. After figuring out how to locate pitches using classic, I prefer it to the meter.

Re: I Figured Out Classic Pitching!!!
Tap twice? Hmmm, that's not what I do, and I locate pitches just fine. I've never heard of tapping twice like that with classic pitching in any baseball game. Guess I need to check the manual on this one. I read something about tapping more than once to increase velocity, but others are saying to hold the button to increase velocity. Sure that's not what you're seeing? -
Re: I Figured Out Classic Pitching!!!
The manual sucks, all it says for classic pitching is to tap X repeatedly to increase velocity (which doesn't work), and that's it. You have to tap X a second time during the release of the pitch to properly locate the pitch. Whenever I would hold X or tap X during the windup it would just screw up my location. The only thing that may change velocity is pressing X harder (or tapping X) during the start of the windup. The classic pitching is this game is much better than High Heat because you just don't pick location, hit X, and the game determines the rest. You need to tap X again during the pitch's release to determine how accurate the pitch will be, so you have more say in the quality of the pitch in The Show than compared to High Heat.Originally posted by baa7Tap twice? If you only hold or tap X to start the windup and do nothing else, it's just like the meter if you didn't stop the meter on the way back near the sweet spot (the pitch is very inaccurate).Comment

Re: I Figured Out Classic Pitching!!!
I've been saying the Pitchers determine their own speed on pitches. trying to make them throw a faster pitch does nothing but mess up your control IMO and since Classic Pitching take a pitchers control ratings more into account I think it's the best way to go.
With Meter pitching it was all about me and my skill instead of the actual pitcher most of the time. I had that same problem in MVP where I was placing most of my pitches anywhere I wanted using that style of pitching.
That's why I don't mind the frustrations and growings pains of Classic pitching because it imposes more of a challenge on me to throw strikes.NCAA FOOTBALL 14 ALUMNI LEGENDS CPU vs CPU DYNASTY THREAD

Me neither, I use classic, and I just tap X to pitch. Speeds depend on the pitcher, and all of their pitches break like they are supposed too. If I use the "tips" and hold for more velocity, I throw to the backstop, lol...which is why I just tap now. So far, I get good results.Comment

Yep I agree it depends on the pitcher.NCAA FOOTBALL 14 ALUMNI LEGENDS CPU vs CPU DYNASTY THREAD

Re: I Figured Out Classic Pitching!!!
I don't know what's going on but I was walking around 9 batters and throwing at least 4 wild pitches per game. Just about every single pitch I threw was nowhere near my intended location. I noticed that my pitchers' release points seem way off, so I tried hitting X during the release and was able to throw the ball in the general area I was intending to. Next game, I start hitting X during the pitch's release and I only walked 2 batters with no wild pitches. I also started a game and pitched for both teams, so it wasn't just that my pitchers were having good days or bad days because ever since I haven't had a problem locating pitches using classic pitching.Originally posted by GleeboAs far as I can tell there is NO release point in Classic pitching. No 2nd tap is needed, there is no positive or negative effect due to hitting X as pitcher releases pitch.
There has to be something to this because I've read people who love classic pitching and others that can't locate pitches to save their lives. I was part of that second group until I started hitting X during the release of the pitch.Last edited by cowboype2000; 05-01-2006, 06:21 PM.Comment

Re: I Figured Out Classic Pitching!!!
I was having all sorts of issues, and even though people say tapping x like the manual tells you to doesn't work, I tried it. It worked for me and I've been using it ever since.
I'm starting to think there isn't one good way to pitch. Everyone seems to have come up with a way that helps them the best. Whether holding x, tapping x twice like cowboy does, or repeatedly tapping x like I do, they all seem to work.Comment

However, it doesn't work to increase velocity like the manual says.Originally posted by Chaos81I was having all sorts of issues, and even though people say tapping x like the manual tells you to doesn't work, I tried it. It worked for me and I've been using it ever since.Comment

Re: I Figured Out Classic Pitching!!!
Part of that is the variability of the pitch accuracy. It's easy to see: just pitch fastballs and try and hit the outside corner. The ball ends up all over the place: inside, outside, you name it... depending on the pitcher of course. Best programmed classic pitching sytem I've ever used, no questionOriginally posted by cowboype2000There has to be something to this because I've read people who love classic pitching and others that can't locate pitches to save their lives.

It may just be that you are happening to tap right at the release point which has caused the improvement.Originally posted by Chaos81I was having all sorts of issues, and even though people say tapping x like the manual tells you to doesn't work, I tried it. I can't wait to get home and try this out, because just tapping to start is resulting in way too many missed spots for me, even with ace pitchers.Comment
