Wii Online and Virtual Console Discussion

    Wii Online Launch Guide

    Virtual Console Launch Lineup

    Possible VC 2007 Titles

I figure this topic won't get rolling until the Wii actually comes out and people download a couple VC games, but I figured we could discuss the Wii's online services (which will eventually start rolling once Pokemon is released) and VC titles. But mainly VC titles.

So, what is everybody going to download first?

    Sonic!
I don't like the Yankees, I like the Red Sox, I don't like the Lakers, I like the Celtics, I hate the Canadiens and I love the Bruins. Soccer is the best sport on Earth, but most Americans are too ignorant to realize it. I am American.

I think I'm SOL in the VC department unless I take it to a friends house because all I have at home is silly dialup Oh and don't laugh, high-speed internet isn't available where I live yet. The first game I would download though is Super Mario 64, I never got a chance to play that when I was younger. Golden Axe was always an arcade favorite of mine as well. Man I can't wait until next week!

I'll probably get 90% of them. I just love the old games and can't wait to play them for real on my big tv.

Games I hope to see are Dr Mario (pretty sure this is confirmed), Mario Kart 64, International Superstar Soccer, Beetle Adventure, Wave Race and Wipeout on N64.

Yeah, Wave Race could be a fun game to play with the gf. I basically missed out on the whole N64 era and never owned one for some reason so they are all basically new experiences to me. I can't think of the name at the moment but I remember seeing a demo of a popular Star Wars N64 game that I wanted really bad. I hope that one sees the light of day.

Rook, are you thinking about the Rogue Squadron series?

As for me, I'm definitely looking forward to playing Mario 64, along with Sonic and ToeJam & Earl! I really hope Donkey Kong comes out soon next year though. The SNES and 64 games were the freakin ****.

ToeJam and Earl was a classic!!

Remember Santa sneaking around, the Icuras Wings, Super Hi-Tops and the Carrot Man who was trying to sell things. None more memorable than 'a Buck - selling for 2 Bucks'... lol

Bump. I'm curious to how the licensing for some certain games will work out. I doubt GoldenEye on the 64 will be available, since it was a Rare title and Bond is now licensed to EA. What about other titles Rare worked on, such as Donkey Kong and Banjo-Kazooie? I realize Nintendo published them, so does that mean they will be available (eventually) on VC?

Would a sticky be feasible for this topic?

I think that DK & BK would be fine to release on VC.

Not All Wii Channels Available At Launch - IGN

November 16, 2006 - Most of the attention directed towards the upcoming Nintendo Wii console is based around the unique possibilities of the motion sensitive Wiimote, but that is not the end of the capabilities of the innovative new console. Of equal interest to many out there are the various Wii channels, unveiled this year at the Games Convention in Leipzig. From the Wii Menu portal, players gain access to an ever-evolving set of functionalities including a News Channel, a Photo Channel, a Shop Channel, and a Forecast Channel.

Unfortunately, only some of these previously announced channels will be available for consumers right out of the box. Wii owners will be able to immediately jump into the Mii Channel, where they can create digital caricatures of themselves; the Photo Channel, where they can transfer files from an SD memory card to their Wii; or the Shop Channel, where they can redeem Wii points to download games or other items. On the Wii Shop Channel, gamers can download at least 12 classic Virtual Console games at launch with several more weekly releases bringing the total to over 30 by the end of the year.

However, gamers eager to try out the Forecast and Weather Channels will have to wait a bit longer. On December 20, Nintendo will launch the Forecast Channel. From this channel, users will be able to access constantly-updated local weather information. Users can also receive weather information from around the world by navigating an interactive 3-D model of the globe. Weather information is to be provided by Weathernews. Following this, on January 27, the News Channel will make headlines with the latest news from around the world provided by the Associated Press. A high-speed internet connection is required to access both the Forecast and News Channels.

The VC launch line-up is what I'm wondering about most. 12 games, I hope one of them is Mario 64!

Well, IGN posted that 62 Wii launch titles list (first post), and apparently those 30 VC titles are due out by the end of the year and seeing how Mario 64 is the only N64 game, I would think the same thing.
