Re: Official Madden 2004 Slider Discussion

I like the idea of discussing gameplay issues before we get too crazy posting sliders. So far here's what I see (I play on all pro default).

    1. Too many big plays on offense for cpu and human-I've never been so afraid to try to tackle Ahman Green in a game before. An awareness bump for both cpu and human is probably in order.

    2. Lack of human pass rush-too much time for the cpu QB to throw, it makes it very tough to stop them, especially on 3rd down.

    3. The cpu pass rush is pretty fierce, but I'd say it needs to be toned down less than the human pass rush needs to be improved. I've played a game I think where I didn't get sacked at all against Green Bay.

Agreed with the above. The CPU pass rush is insane. Sometimes the Lb gets through and I am like..huh. Where did he come from? The running game on both sides seems much better this year so maybe a little less adjusting the running sliders.

Remember what it says in the manual. If you kick and let it go into the red, the arrow comes down faster this year.

As far as the CPU pass rush goes, stay in the pocket! I love the pocket in this year's game, you actually need to stay inside it to be successful. Trying to drop 15 yards and run left and right will get you sacked just about everytime unless you're using Vick, McNabb, McNair, ect...

Still tweaking my All-Pro sliders but I think 12 minute accelerated, 7 non is the right time to play on this year. I'll post in a couple of days when I get some i feel comfortable with, here are some of the issue's I try to deal with:

            -Big pass plays by CPU
            -WR drops(CPU & human)
-rushing too easy for human, too hard for CPU
-too many human team INTs(as in CPU thrown)

any other trends you guys have been noticing that i might be overlooking?

I think i've got most of it down pretty well(for my own game at least, who knows if it'll work for everyone else) but I'm still tweaking. Come to think of it, I might be able to post them by tonight, we'll see. I'm sure other people will release better ones anyway, but I just wanted to try to make my own this year!

                  Human / CPU Offense
                  QB Accuracy - 10 / 11
                  Pass Blocking - 14 / 10
                  WR Catching - 10 / 10
                  RB Ability - 12 / 12
                  Run Blocking - 12 / 11

                  Break Block - 10 / 8
                  Tackling - 13 / 13

I'm tending to see on average 3 interceptions per game, as opposed to the 6 upwards you get with the default interception slider.

The average number of offensive plays per game are averaging around 110. The average in the 2002 NFL season was 122.

On average, a strong offense with a good QB seems to average around 260 yards passing. A poor offense with a weak QB seems to average around 130 yards passing. Of course those numbers depend on wether you or the CPU has a top RB to hand the ball off to more.

Good RB's seem to be making around 90 yards per game with an average of around 4.5 yards per carry. Poor RB's make nearer 50 yards at around 2.5 yards per carry.

These sliders are very immature at the moment, but the more I play, the happier I seem to get with them. I'm gonna keep thrashing out games with them and see what happens. One thing is for certain though, the default interceptions slider is beyond ridiculous. I simulated a CPU vs CPU game the other night and Vick threw 8 picks with the Ravens QB throwing 3. Adjusting that slider has definately done the trick.

I tweaked some sliders today and my defense still picked off Hutchinson 5 times. No user picks, either. Just regular old INTs. Very unnerving. I hate to lower the INT slider because I hate it when a DB drops numerous balls thrown right to him. I tell ya I wish this engine would allow for more realistic incomplete passes. How many times do you see a DB in the NFL swat down a pass in space? Not very often. And when you do, it's considered a fantastic play. It's rare in the game to see a pass simply be incomplete because it hits the ground first rather than a player. It happens, but it's rare, and I don't think any sldier twaeks can change that. Ah well.

Something I have noticed in my brief time with the game is that the CPU has problems running sweeps (ALL-Pro level). I have bupmed up the CPU run blocking and run ability (both set at 13), but this in turn has made the CPU a monster inside the tackles while not really going anywhere on sweeps.

Also the CPU pass blocking is too strong on default for sure. Bumped it down to 8 but still need to go further. A good test is to use the Bucs, they should be able to get about 3 or more sacks in a 120 play game.
