I can definitely see what you mean about ESPN making every down important but to be totally honest with you, I felt that NFL 2K3 forced that feeling even moreso.....Every down was a complete battle to try and either STOP the CPU or move the ball on it. I actually feel ESPN this year softened that up a bit for the average gamer but it is still tougher than Madden.

I think the number one reason for this is not coicidental at all. Espn and NFL 2k3 force you to completely commit to either the run or the pass to effectively shut it down and if you choose wrong you pay a higher price....and to boot the CPU can really effectively run the ground attack whereas in Madden and even NCAA, you can really effectively stop both the run and the pass without total commitment to either one. As well as the fact that the Madden engine has been notorious for not being able to have the CPU deliver a potent ground attack since the latest engine came out in 2001.
