If you want to take advantage of your HDTV friend you MUST go XBox. It IS HDTV capable, PS2 is NOT. I dumped my PS2 when I got my HDTV because the PS2 looked terrible on it. XBox with the MS High Def pack (component video, buy optical audio cable separately if you're using your stereo system for sound) makes a HUGE difference.
