Need For Speed Series Possibly Cut By EA?

According to Electric Playground and 1up, the Need For Speed series maybe have just seen its last release. What are your thoughts?

Quote:
"If this report is true, I'm disappointed that we'll never get the chance to see what could have come from giving this series a much-needed boost in development time to try out new ideas. And unless the publisher already has new plans for the creators of Need For Speed, we could be seeing further layoffs from EA soon, as has been previously predicted. We'll keep checking for official confirmation and word from EA on what's happening to the Need for Speed franchise and why."

I kind of hope not.

NFS has been a long running series and I kind of enjoy it. I admit though, I have not purchased their latest installment, but I have played it at my brothers house and it really isn't that bad of a game.

Hopefully it sticks around.

I miss the Road and Track presentation of NFS from the first few games of the series... Great car interior images, video and a voice over narration for each vehicle gave the game an interactive magazine feel. Whatever happened to that?

I agree, I loved that. They should have never left that feel.

Re: Need For Speed Series Possibly Cut By EA?

NFS was killed off a long time ago. EA has just been tagging the brand onto various racers to give them an immediate identity - even though their gameplay didn't align with the identity of NFS series.

Retirement is long over due for this brand and it is too bad EA just couldn't have done it in a more eloquent manner, when everyone remembered NFS as a showcase of exotic rides and scenic winding courses. When they remembered it as the truly fantastic series it was.

Instead EA opted to drag its tired carcass up and down the court like an aging Patrick Ewing, pouring sour milk over many a great memory.
