EA to Announce Return of NBA Jam

It looks like the EA mystery game is NBA Jam, according to Jon Robinson, at ESPN. What are your thoughts?

Quote:
"When EA Sports community manager Alain Quinto tweeted back in December that EA execs were preparing to announce a new game, the rumors and speculation spiraled out of control. Was EA going to steal the WWE license from THQ? Is "MVP Baseball" coming back? Is a new sport like lacrosse finally going to break through with an NCAA licensed game? To make it simple, no, no, and no.

Instead, sources confirmed to ESPN that the new title is actually one of the all-time classics coming back to consoles as EA Sports is set to deliver an updated version of "NBA Jam" that will ship to retail exclusively for the Wii."

Re: EA to Announce Return of NBA Jam

There's some confusion in my head right now. I know Midway made NBA Jam, and obviously, Midway bit the big one. It says on Wikipedia that THQ bought Midway San Diego and "old sports titles". EA Sports isn't even in the paragraph on Wikipedia.

So is this a spiritual successor of NBA Jam, or something branded NBA Jam? I'm just... confused.

And why just for Wii? This boggles my mind.

The best news in this article is:

Quote:
EA has not only hired Turmell to work on upcoming sports games (would love to see him also bring back "NFL Blitz"), he's already been brought to their Vancouver studio to help consult on the new "Jam." Sources also claim that Turmell isn't the only old-school "Jam" vet being brought back into the mix, which makes me wonder if EA will also hire the voice of the original game, Tim Kitzrow, to once again unleash phrases like "Boomshackalacka!" and "He's on fire!"

This is only for the Wii?

Does EA know that "NBA Jam" would be a nostalgic type of game for us "older" gamers? I am sure the kiddies would like it too, but come on.

Pretty disappointed here. Looks like they will not be getting my money in this department.

Something like this belongs on the Live Marketplace and PSN Store. Not exclusively to the Wii. NBA Jam was never meant to be played with motion controllers. That just kills it.

Give it some time and I'm sure it will come.

I doubt EA would have hired-on Turmell and some other members of the Jam staff if they were just planning on putting out a single Wii game.

If we are lucky, these guys will take over the bland "arcade" series that EA's trotted out for NHL and Madden.

I hope they realize that the kiddies do not know what NBA JAM is.

Just bring JAM to the PS360.... and make it for adults.

Please.
