25 New Plays Coming to Madden NFL 12 - Play #18: Overload 3 Seam

Over the next few weeks, EA Sports will show 25 new plays that you will find in Madden NFL 12.

To be clear, there are more than 25 new plays in the game. Each day, a new play will be accompanied by a screen of the play art and a brief description of why the play has been added to Madden NFL 12.

Play #18 features the Overload 3 Seam.

Quote:
Sub 2-3-6 Overload 3 Seam – A growing trend in the NFL is the use of what’s commonly referred to as “Sub” personnel defenses in normal down and distance situations. In Madden NFL 12, new defensive sets such as Sub 2-3-6 which uses two defensive linemen, three linebackers, three safeties, and three cornerbacks cater to that trend. Overload 3 Seam is a three deep, three under fire zone concept in which the zone defenders use a pattern read technique that causes the zone coverage to play more like a man to man defense.
Platform: PS3 / Wii / Xbox 360

"Pattern read technique" oh my goodness I can't wait. It could be wonderful if the do it right. I've been waiting for them to overhaul defense since the ps2 days. I can't wait. If then can put cover 5 in the game which is a read technique for a cover 2, I will be slap-happy.

Just to echo what everyone else has hooked on... PATTERN READING!!!!

The spot dropping has left something to be desired, especially when trying to run a quarters defense, but pattern reading... oh, yes, I love the possibility of a new layer of strategy. It's a tough style of coverage to master so I'm hoping the awareness of the defenders will balance out the risk reward, and hopefully there's a global command like a "pass" commit is added, but this is so cool.

Hopefully, this can also place even more emphasis on different styles of cornerbacks -- the physical "Cover 2 Corner" vs. the Man To Man Corner -- and how you build your scheme.

I'm guessing the Ravens, I know they use a lot of 3 safety sets. The Pats also use a lot of 3 safety sets.
