OS Tip of the Day: Know Your Base-Runners Before Stealing

Ricky says, there isn't anyone like me so stop trying to send David Ortiz to steal third.

Before Calling for the Steal, Know Who the Runner Is

Before you should even think about stealing, you need to make sure that its possible.

Take a second look at your baserunner's speed/base-running ratings. Eliminate thoughts of swiping a bag if he doesn't have the tools. You can also usually forget stealing with most power-hitting first basemen, catchers, and (in the NL) pitchers.

Simply put, David Ortiz is not Ricky Henderson. Quit trying to steal bases with him.

Who are the top base stealers in the game in your opinion?

The Rangers have a good suite of players that can still. On a consistent basis Kinsler, Andrus and Beltre are great for stealing. However, Hamilton and Cruz do a great job as well.

Gentry is probably the best one on the Rangers.

Same as an all steal command, only you hold the left stick in the direction of the base runner you want to tell to steal. So, for a guy standing on first that you want to swipe second, Hold right (for 1st base runner), and press L2.

Cubs: Starlin Castro and Tony Campana. That's about it, although you might get lucky with a few others. Decent speed, but almost no baserunning ability on this team.
