MLB 14 The Show: Playing the Series for the First Time

Below are my thoughts, written as a stream of consciousness in real time as I played MLB: The Show 14 on Playstation 4. This was my first time playing a Sony baseball game since the Playstation 2. So the following thoughts are those of a newcomer to the series that's so widely acclaimed.

Day One: Very impressed with some aspects, but a little bit let down by others. Pulse pitching took some time getting used to, but now I really like it. Batting and pitching practice actually help a lot. In some games, practice modes are worthless but not here. I struggled initially with hitting as well, and I'm still not crushing the ball, but I'm getting better. Can't figure out base running yet. I just want the lead runner to advance! I'm on veteran difficulty by the way, with experienced controls.

Nice impressions! It's been years since I've really gotten into a baseball game and I've always heard about how great the show was yet haven't owned a Sony console since the ps1. Lately though, I've been watching more baseball games on TV than I have in years and I'm really starting to get the itch to play some video game baseball.

So far I've held off on a next gen system, happily gaming away on my PC but being primarily a sports gamer, a game like this really might tilt the odds in favor of a PS4 sometime in the near future.

Anyways just wanted to reiterate that I enjoyed your impressions, and they definitely upped my hype level for the game, especially since you're writing from the same perspective as me in never having played the series before.

To get the lead runner to advance, just move the left analog stick in the direction of what base he is on and then move him.

This was a great write up. I've recently come back to baseball after the strikes, the nonsense and all that. The last baseball game I played was all star baseball 2004 and high heat, so it's been a while. I couldn't agree more with you about how great this years game is. If Any sports game took pains to include as much as the show has, m an, we gamers would be a happy bunch.

You want to take it up a notch? Forget Pulse pitching and go with Analog stick. It will take the gameplay to another level. Pulse is crap arcade stuff. Analog stick will put you on the hill. Its the best pitching method yet!

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Playing the Series for the First Time

Is analog pitching similar to the 2k series gesture pitching?
