EA Sports UFC Career Mode Hands-On Impressions (GoodGameBro)

GoodGameBro has posted their EA Sports UFC career mode hands-on impressions. Brian Parker touches on many details, including create-a-player, different fighting styles, The Ultimate Fighter, fighter “Longevity” and much more.

Lots of good stuff here.

Quote:
Regardless of what training sessions you do, the progression points earned are universal across the ratings categories when you go in to apply them to your fighter. In another nod to NHL and FIFA created player progressions, adding points to a rating has an ever-increasing cost-per-point as the rating gets higher. If you create a striking specialist, striking-related categories will cost more early on because those ratings are higher, while grappling and ground-related categories will have a lower cost due to their lower initial ratings. Your created fighter will begin somewhere in the realm of 55-60 OVR, and that rating range is shared by your fictional opponents in “The Ultimate Fighter;” by comparison, the big-name UFC fighters in the main game are often rated in the 80-95 OVR range. It’ll take some work to be able to stand up to the champion in your weight class!
Platform: PS4 / Xbox One

So it sounds like we're going to have to repeat training all the time ala the THQ UFC games? That's a bummer.

At least we will receive "evolution points" to distribute as we please, compared to being forced into specific training sessions in order to raise the correlated attribute. There were some training activities in UFC 3, such as the sparring mits and take down defense drills that I disliked, I can now avoid doing these.

I wanted to hold off on buying a PS4 until next spring, and I got through The Show's release just fine, but this game might be the one to get my to buy it.

I guess I should have stated in my first post was that I'm hoping it was closer to the EA MMA model.

You could train in say Kickboxing 1 and get a letter grade for instance an A. From there on out you could just select sim training on Kickboxing 1 and still get the results of an A grade session for whatever attributes Kickboxing 1 effected.

It really helped with the monotony of the career mode.
