I don't think anyone would argue this however (and admittedly I am only assuming)..... surely getting servers right for a FPS with many players (versus a 3 on 3 park game) with huge maps (vs a small court) with much more happening in the background...explosions, smoke, bullets ricocheting etc (versus an empty rollercoaster going along a track or fish swimming in an aquarium) would be much more difficult....

If they can get it right (most of the time) why can't 2k??

Just separate online pros from offline ones for people like me who can't stand career modes. FIFA has a decent unlock system. Well, two years ago when I last played...

jesus, op got roasted. this game had great potential, but unfortunately it's half-assed and fundamentally flawed. new features that were added are incomplete and don't work properly. defense for instance - there's so many new options, but the core defense doesn't work properly... namely interior defense. something that should have been nailed down years and years ago. actually it was, but then it got screwed up somehow. mind boggling. the lay-up meter. the timing doesn't coincidence with the hand release! mind boggling. if it doesn't work right, save it for next year. just a couple of examples.

i know that it's just a video game, and progress happens over time, but when you take two steps forward and one step back every year, and implement new features without tuning and polishing them correctly, people are gonna be mad. this game to me is like a vette without a engine.

I do feel that this game took a slight step back graphically from 2k16 imo-Especially with body types. I do like the title but I was annoyed by the early release issues (dream team not unlocked for weeks), in game mechanics such as player movement on defense and offense, and now freezes and dashboard crashes on X1. I do think this is an ambitious title that can't reach it's full potential until the game engine catches up with all the info O'Gallager, Czar and Wang are throwing at it. Part of me wishes they could take a year off to just iron things out rather than be forced to meet this yearly release window.
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

I feel like a better title would be "A mediocre outing." Or a polarizing offering. Etc. I feel the title doesn't speak for what is seen on these forums, which makes it seem out of place.

The article is pretty short considering how much there is to discuss about 2k17.

it's crazy that 95% of people replying to this thread don't care much for the game, or are just straight up through with it. i hope 2k is listening.

As far as sales go? Yeah. This is a very successful game.

As far as how the actual game plays? Not even close. It's easily the worst 2K I've played. It's really laughable how bad it is.

I officially did not like this years version of NBA2k. But will continue to support their product due to their track record with the NBA title.
I think it will be more of a "wait and see" for me, from now on. Definitely no day one purchase, anymore. If we wait until around Christmas, we should have a pretty clear understanding of what the game will be.

"What did they really mess up?"

They 1.00v of the game is a mess. The shorter development window caused all kinds of bugs to slip through, which stinks because 2k is the only series I know of that patches cause the save files to not work with older version of the game. Even the version on PSN is 1.02 this year, because the disc version is so bad.

I guess "mostly successful" depends on what you consider "success".

This poll, on this forum, suggests, from a fans stand point, that it did not succeed.
132 people voted in the poll and 83%, 109, of them voted that 2k DID NOT deliver.
17 people, 13%, voted that they did.

I am confident that if all 2k fans were polled, the number of people that think this game failed would grow significantly.

This shows OS bias towards selling copies and making people feel good, as opposed to advancing games for simulation standards.

The resounding feeling towards 2k17 as a whole, from the OS community is not a positive one. Besides the obvious internet hate, there are A LOT of well constructed criticisms brought up on this board. Well thought out posts with actual data to back it up. Articles like this disregard the majority of opinions from Sim gamers and say...its successful. Why? To help 2k sell copies. If Madden or NHL has this kind of unrest from the OS community, all at one, would they make this post about those games?
