Madden NFL 23: The Little Things

Thought we should start this again for this year’s Madden iteration (thanks, Coach!)

Here’s one I noticed: I threw for a deep first down with Tom Brady. After the instant replay, the cut scene was Tom’s signature “Let’s F*****g Go!” fist pump.

I love details like this.

I had 9 penalties in one game with 10 minute quarters.

One was on a kickoff return. I cannot recall seeing that before.

One of the most underrated little things that i haven’t seen many people talk about is that preseason games change every year FINALLY! This is an awesome change and is very appreciated.

I was spectating a game the other night between the Jags and Bears. the Bears were the home team. Trevor Lawrence was struggling in the first half and after an errant throw the Bears crowd started clapping and chanting "Overrated." Justin Fields was also struggling and after he threw his 3rd pick of the half his home crowd started booing him. It was cool to hear the crowd engaged at the right time according to what was happening on the field.

Every time I overthrow a receiver by a couple yards using the new passing mechanic and the ball hits the dirt it feels incredible. We wanted that so bad a few years ago when every throw was perfect or 15 yards out of bounds. It is such a satisfying feeling to make a mistake and see it reflected in the game instead of everything being so automatic.

4th and 3. I punt. Guy comes off the edge. Sure it’s getting blocked. Not only do I barely get it off, the would-be blocker dives at my punter’s feet, and I get the roughing the kicker penalty.

Never seen that, so I’m stoked. But…

On the very next play I decide I’m taking a shot, and… pass interference! Back to back penalties by the CPU!

What’s going on here?

Couple of things I have noticed that I haven't seen before or don't remember (I only played 22 on the EA Play trial) I have seen a few times where a DL will get knocked down and an OL will jump on top of him to "finish the block" looks really cool, even saw one animation where the OL put his forearm to the DL's throat as he was on top of him. Also was playing as the Eagles and the opposing team momentum meter was full, the crowd was super loud and my play art was the squiggly lines, the huddle cutscene showed Hurts covering both earholes with his hands trying to hear the call from the sideline, shaking his head back and forth looking to the sideline like "I can't hear anything!". Stuff like that is so huge when it comes to adding to the immersion factor, and it hits even harder when these animations play out during the game/post play and not in cut scenes, seems way more dynamic then.

Playing a rain game in my Vikes franchise in Washington….ran a square in with Jefferson, he slips in the rain coming out of his break and my pass was incomplete due to it. Made me go whoa lol…was awesome.
