Re: NHL 23 trailer out August 25!

Hoping for continued improvement in gameplay like goalie play and offensive tempo. In addition would really like to see a much needed upgrade in presentation like the start (and end) of game and between intermissions. Those same cut scenes are very old. Celebrations should also improve, especially bringing back the flood of hats being thrown onto the ice after a hat trick.

Also, inclusion of the Coyotes new Arizona State stadium at launch would be much appreciated as the generic prototype will really look out of place.

Overall better AI spacing. I feel like back in 13/14 the AI would cycle better and the defensive AI would make you work a bit more to open up the ice. Since the jump to 15 and on, game seems to have lost that.

NHL 22 is still in our rotation for our weekly game night but I’m ready for NHL 23. I’ve had many ups and downs with the EA NHL franchise over the last 20+ years so any improvements are welcomed each year. I really enjoyed the gameplay for 22 with the numerous improvements with animations, puck physics, shot stick, AI, etc. it’s not perfect, there are still too many, what we call ‘cheat goals’. One timers are better but, the wrap around the net, far side top shelf is almost a guaranteed goal if the play doesn’t get broken up. Smarter Defensive AI will reduce this. I only play offline so I can’t comment on the online aspects but my biggest wants for 23 are more cosmetic stuff like;

Custom goalie mask (or at least updated masks)
Winter Classic
Much better/more Face scans
Improved goalie animations

They intentionally dumbed down the AI for the comp scene because they want 100% guaranteed goals and super boring gameplay. We all get to suffer because the comp scene doesn't know hockey and doesn't want hockey to be played. They want basketball-like ISO plays because rammer and ben only understand basketball.

Presentation needs an update, and it starts with Cybulski switching to decaf. There's a lot of legacy histrionics in the commentary, that are overdue to be mellowed out. But please, oh please, for the love of Foster Hewitt, **no celebrity guests in the booth.**

Cover athlete, heart says Stamkos, but head says Crosby. Can't stand Crosby, but he's never been on the cover, and he's a first-ballot lock for 30 Yonge, so I have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

The synching has got to be the priority. I'll be playing a game and it will go into the title screen with a flashing synching in the upper right hand corner. Terrible... I would like to see some goalie mask personalization and minor tweaks. Like I was drafted by the Sabers and it still has Eichel on the team...
