What’s the best way to clear cap space?

Yeah but you're still on the hook for the signing bonus which could be huge in some other instances and sometimes it's just better to hold onto the player instead of having dead money.

*Cries in Packers* they have a terrible cap situation in Madden the first year.

Trading them results in a cap penalty I saw.

Re: Salary Cap in franchise

If you want to keep things realistic:

1. Trade, cut players with high salaries and low penalties.
2. Trade/cut players with low salaries and no penalties.
3. Bite the bullet and trade/cut players with high salaries and high penalties all in the same season. You'll end up with huge dead cap numbers but it will mostly be all on the current and/or next season and then it'll be over and you can start fresh.

If you're not fussed about realism:

1. Go into team salaries and just just use the 'clear dead cap space' option.

(I can't remember if that's actually what it's called or that's actually where it is but there is an option to just wipe all of the penalties away. Not sure if you're aware of that.)

You can also just edit contracts. I had to do that to get players who were traded on their respective teams.

Re: Salary Cap in franchise

Short-term, the best way to create cap space is to cut or trade away players who have the highest cap savings values and lowest cap penalty values.

Long-term, the best way to create cap space is to be selective about who you offer contract extensions and draft ahead accordingly. You have to be willing to replace basically any Normal development player who is age 25 or older.
