Rotating Backs

Hi all. Dumb question of the day:

What is the most efficient way to rotate backs in Madden? In my franchise I have a sort of “thunder and lightning” thing going on, but I’m struggling to figure out how to get the game to rotate the backs in any way.

The closest I’ve gotten so far is formation subs, but I don’t love that because I use a custom playbook and as far as I can tell you can’t set formation subs for a custom playbook. So I just pick the default playbook that has the most similar formations and I set the formation subs for those which works ok. At least I can put in my power back on I form and goal line runs and my elusive back in gun runs. But sometimes I want to give it to my big back in a spread formation and I don’t know how to do that.

I see there’s a “package” option in the play selection menu but I’m not clear on how it works.

Any suggestions from vets?

Just manually sub before the play.

That's what I usually do with RBs, WRs, DEs and DBs.

Either adjust your depth chart at points (i.e. perhaps swap backs after x number of carries) or use the formation packages, not formation subs, in the play call screen.

I do formation subs so that the backup has a package of plays

I've had decent luck with auto-subs working, here is what I use:
Also, use your 2nd and 3rd RBs as PWRHB and 3rd Down back, this usually helps also.

Any ideas why? Or had anyone else got any slider suggestions?

You have to raise fatigue above default
