Identify this Defense, please

I keep getting sacked by this Defense....The guys come around the edge and hit me a few seconds after snapping the ball

1) What Defense formation is it

2) What can I do better so I don't get sacked every time

I only see 5 blockers. Are they bringing 6? If so, use a blocking TE or HB instead of empty or call a play with a quick read.

If he’s bringing less than 6, are you sliding the protection? If not, a half slide to the side of the free rusher would likely stop him.

EDIT: also, if you literally mean “a few seconds” (meaning 3 or more) then you’re calling plays that take too long to develop.

That looks like the 6-1 alignment from the 4-3 defense.

To remedy it, you gotta do what the other guy above my comment said. Use quick reads and/or keep your TE's and backs in to pick up the extra rusher.

Do you mean the 46 formation?

Pre-snap audible. I use pistol formations with one RB in the backfield for that reason. Use underneath drag routes or quick slants. They are blitzing the linebackers so those routes should be open.

In coach mode this is crucial to success because the QB won't scramble to avoid a sack.

Yes 6-1 Sam Will blitz murders empty sets to the reason you noted - you're out numbered and the edge blitzes have a straight shot at the QB once they turn the corner. You *can* pass out of that but you have to commit to the pass immediately after the snap and throw it as soon as you get the ball. If you wait for a guy to run more than 5 yards downfield then you're getting popped.
