MLB 24 The Show Greatest Teams Roster 1975-2024 V. 2

Ok, so I finished the first set and now I'm thinking of doing this second set of rosters featuring different teams. Automatically ruling out the teams from V.1, I went back and looked at the some of the teams of the past and decided that I could be a little more flexible on this one. I'm still sticking to the same cutoff year (1975), but World Series teams are not an automatic choice, though they are heavily favored. So, here's my proposed Version 2 teams for my "Greatest teams 1975-present V2" roster:

    2011 Arizona Diamondbacks
    2021 Atlanta Braves
    1997 Baltimore Orioles
    2007 Boston Red Sox
    1989 Chicago Cubs
    1993 Chicago White Sox
    1990 Cincinnati Reds
    2016 Cleveland Guardians
    2018 Colorado Rockies
    2006 Detroit Tigers
    1986 Houston Astros
    2015 Kansas City Royals
    1986 Los Angeles (California) Angels
    1988 Los Angeles Dodgers
    2003 Miami Marlins
    2011 Milwaukee Brewers
    1987 Minnesota Twins
    2000 New York Mets
    1977 New York Yankees
    2002 Oakland Athletics
    1980 Philadelphia Phillies
    1991 Pittsburgh Pirates
    1984 San Diego Padres
    2002 San Francisco Giants
    1995 Seattle Mariners
    1982 St. Louis Cardinals
    2020 Tampa Bay Rays
    2011 Texas Rangers
    2015 Toronto Blue Jays
    1994 Montreal Expos (Washington Nationals)

I'm a little more open to suggestions on this one, but these are my top choices currently (subject to change). No time frame as of yet (and I still might go back to my Fictional Rosters instead).

For the Giants, there'd maybe be a case for favoring the 1993 team over the 2002 one. They obviously didn't have the postseason pedigree of the '02 squad, but their regular season mark is still one of the best in franchise history.

      I would suggest the 1977 Yankees, 1977or 1986 Red Sox, 1977 Phillies, and 1977 Dodgers, 1986 Astros.

What about the 2015 Mets instead of the 2000 team?

I would love to see the 94 Expos. I really thought they were on their way before the strike.

            77 or 78 Yankees. 86 Red Sox. 78 Dodgers. 79 Pirates.

That team was pretty stacked offensively, but the 2002 Giants came within one game of winning the world championship. I had thought about the 1989 Earthquake team, but I wanted a Giants team with Bonds on it. There were also the '10 and '14 teams, which ultimately I felt were too similar to the '12 team. If I do a volume 3, I'll definitely consider making them.

I had thought about doing one of the late '70s Yankees teams, but I hated them so much. However, it appears you are not alone, and I will save the '09 team for Volume 3 and do the '77 Yankees on this one. The '88 Dodgers were almost on the first set, so I'm sticking with them. The 1986 Red Sox will probably be on Volume 3. The '86 Astros are what I had listed...

I'll be honest. I don't love that 2015 team. Their pitching staff wasn't bad, but the offense was kind of weak. The '88 team, had they not been so close to the '86 champs, would have probably been chosen, but I wanted a fresh roster to work with. Besides, Piazza rules.

I will relent and do the '94 Expos as it was between them and the '81 team.

              77 Yankees - Yes
              86 Red Sox - Volume 3
              78 Dodgers - No
79 Pirates - Were already on Volume 1

On another front, I think I'm going to do the '15 Blue Jays instead of '85...

I know you had a reason for setting the cutoff at 75 but if there is anyway you’d consider moving it just one year that 72-74 As team (74 version to bend the rule the least) would be so amazing.

If the rule is unbeatable the 75 team was still good and would be appreciated over the moneyball pretenders.

If not since you’re already doing a v3 list

I picked 75 because that was the year I was born. It's basically an "in my lifetime" rule. But that 74 A's team is outstanding. I'll have to think on it. The 2002 team, I believe, is the Moneyball team portrayed in the Brad Pitt movie, so they're pretty famous as well. But i do think the 1974 team was better. I'll put one in this roster and then the other in next, though I don't know which just yet...

I'm very nostalgic with rosters as well and love making classic team sets. When I make the move to 24, I'll definitely check these out. I'm still enjoying 23 as I made all decade sets for the 70s and 80s. Thanks for your efforts.
Pitching, defense and 2 out RBIs win a lot of ball games!

The 2004 Red Sox were in the first set and, unless you're just a huge fan of Todd Walker, it's pretty much the same team. I chose the 2007 team this time because they had a lot of different guys (Josh Beckett, Dustin Pedroia, Daisuke) that weren't with them in 2004 and those 2000s Boston Red Sox teams brought me back to baseball after being away for many years and made me a fan again. The Yankees are my least favorite team in history, but it seems people want the '70s nostalgia, so they will get that in this one and the 2009 team will be in the next one.
