    Fallout: New Vegas

    Gamasutra

Bethesda Softworks announced that Obsidian Entertainment is developing a brand-new Fallout game titled Fallout: New Vegas, to release next year on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Gamasutra was at Bethesda's event in London to hear the game announced by marketing and PR VP Pete Hines, who provided few specifics on the game's engine, gameplay or perspective -- but did note the game's neither a Fallout sequel nor a spin-off.

"It's not Fallout Tactics -- it's not Brotherhood Of Steel," said Hines. "It has no impact on what [Fallout EP] Todd Howard and his guys are planning."

A number of Obsidian staff are veterans of Black Isle's original Fallout games. "We've really been enjoying working with [Obsidian] on it," Hines said.

"That is all we're going to say about it right now," he added.

Nice. Just started back up Fallout 3 after a pretty big break from it. Too much The Show, APF and Empire Total War.

I don't understand what's happening here. Bethesda dev'd fallout3 and oblivion - from what I can remember didin't obsidian develop in part oblivion or the elder scrolls game before that?

What is happening here is mainly what I want to know - 'this is neither spinoff nor sequel' ...so is it a merged development team w/ some members from the original fallout series?

Obsidian had nothing to do with any bethesda game. Ever.

Beth is just owner of the license and Obsidian will be responsible for creating the game using the Fallout 3 engine. What level of control bethesda has over the project is unknown at this time.

Not many creators of the original Fallout are still with Obsidian, but a lot are still around from Fallout part 2.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

Fallout: New Vegas lined up for OXM #57

The new issue of OXM goes on sale tomorrow, and you probably already know it's got a world exclusive Medal of Honor preview in it. But inside you'll see that the Next Month page reveals the following issue, which goes on sale 11th February, should have the world exclusive details on Fallout: New Vegas.

So while we might be having a joke about Vault Boy's New Careers, we're expecting to have the first solid information on the next Fallout adventure in just over a month.

We don't normally plug this sort of thing, because we're still working on the issue and the content is subject to change - sharp-eyed viewers will note the small print stating that at the bottom. But as some other sites have noticed we thought we'd put a proper image up and save them the trouble of scanning it.

So remember, February 11th, issue 56.

I just started playing Fallout 3 a couple weeks ago (have about 20 hours clocked) and I'm loving it - enjoying it more than Oblivion actually. It will be interesting to see the Vegas locale in that world.

Best Buy's website has it listed as 6/1/2010 so we may be getting it way earlier than the holiday season.

That's just a placeholder. Fall at the earliest. We haven't got any info or seen the game, and New Vegas isn't coming out before Obsidian's other game Alpha Protocol, which is coming late Spring.

Man, IDK what to think about this game. Fallout 3 was amazing for the first part I played but then it seem to get, idk. I got tired of seeing all the grey and etc. I know it was based after a nuclear disater but they could of atleast added a little green here and there.

But in Vegas there will probably be alot of new scenery other than grey buildings. Also im prepared to see some *** whole Brotherhood of Steel members. Remember the Outcasts in Fallout 3 werent actually outcasts, they just did what they were suppost to do and didnt care about other people. Thier home base is in California so I think the Brotherhood of Steel members you meet in Los Vegas (If you meet any) are going to resemble more of the Outcasts personality then the regulars you met in DC.
