NHL10 spamming board pin button

I picked up the game yesterday and have played about 15 games online. I've noticed people are already spamming the board pin button in a way that was similar to stick lift or poke check in NHL09.

Basically there's two things I saw people do. One is to initiate a board pin when you have the puck to avoid getting hit, so there's hardly any body checking in the new game since people rarely bother to do it.

Second I see people using board pin when the opponent has the puck and you are "anywhere near the boards", it even works if you're slightly past the player trying to pin you. it's too much, just like stick lift last year. The difference is this makes skating anywhere near the boards off limits.

I think the following additions would be nice if EA can implment sthem ( Redshirt? )

1. If a player that is holding the puck initiates a board pin, they should be open against the boards for a body check.
2. Board pinning should only work if you're really close to the player near the boards. and only from certain angles. Right now it seems like people do this way too easily online. If I'm skating up the boards at full speed and I'm just get past the opponent, he shouldn't be able to use pin effectively.
3. Or perhaps in addition to the angle of approach for a board pin, the speed you are skating allows more chances to break away from a pin. I've seen this happen a few times, but it could probably happen more often with faster players.

When I read that, I didn't read two ways in which board pinning is being abused online. I read two reasons why I've never played online, and never will.

Re: NHL10 spamming board pin button

Interesting. I've only played the game about an hour since getting it, but I have a feeling that board pinning is a "fail" until they work with it some more.

Everything that made NHL 08/09 great had to do with the fluidness and intuitiveness of the controls. Swing the shot stick, your guys swings his stick. Move R stick to the right, the puck dekes to the right. So why, then, do we have more and more features mapped to specific buttons that we weren't even using before.

This board pinning should've been something that happened in certain situations when you go to push someone with the R stick. Both the fighting and board pinning feel like they're adding mini-games totally distinct from the usual experience of playing NHL 08/09, which feels mostly unchanged.

If they pin themselves to the boards with the puck, just go in and keep them there (use "Y"). Problem solved.

Yeah I think once we played the demo we all saw this was gonna be spammed online. Hopefully they'll make some adjustments allowing you to do a full check if they're just trying to stick to the boards. (Although to be fair, players will do this in real life so as not to lose possession in the defensive zone)

Also they definately do need to make it so you can only initiate the board pin at a very close distance and slow speed..

And what about when you're losing by 1 goal and there's only 6 minutes left in the game?

Re: NHL10 spamming board pin button

Simple solution:

don't keep trying to bring the puck up the boards when coming into the offensive zone.

People are still trying to play this game like it was 09 where you could just skate along the boards all the way down the ice then finish with a cross-crease one timer or goaline glitch shot.
