The Ravens weblog section inside the Baltimore Sun states that Chris McAlister is leaning toward joining the Raiders but the move hasn't been made official yet since he's currently not in playing shape.

McAlister to Oakland?

An article from Yahoo! Sports Rumors site goes even further with the rumor and speculates that McAlister will likely be moved to safety once he joins the team.

I wonder if he could make the move without any preseason work.

I don't doubt it. The Raiders play a lot of man coverage on the back end, so all Chris McAlister will be required to do is primarily cover slot guys and play deep center field. He no longer has the deep speed or quickness to turn his hips and run long with wide receivers on the outside, but he should be able to do the other two tasks without much problem once he gets into shape.

It may take him a couple games to get assimilated to the position but I think he has the perfect skill set to make the move. He's quick, not fast anymore, but he still has great reaction times & can disect offenses to put himself into proper positioning.

Re: Chris McAlister to Raiders?

And their defense gets even better. I love the Raiders D this year. Safety is my only concern with them, but if McAlister moves to safety like those articles say, that'll fill some holes at the safety position for the Raiders. Either way though, he's not in playing shape and it'll probably take a few weeks before he gets back to that.

Re: Chris McAlister to Raiders?

The other problem with moving inside is that you take more punishment and his body was breaking down already.
