In 1963, he set an NCAA Division I record with a 99-yard run against Nebraska. In his senior year, he led the Jayhawks to a 15-14 upset victory over Oklahoma with a 96-yard kickoff return. Sayers is considered by many to have been the greatest open field runner in college football history. Willie Pless http://cfl-scrapbook.no-ip.org/Pless.Willie.php Pless was a three-time All-Big Eight First Team selection (1983-85) and was named the all-time best linebacker in the history of Big Eight after it became the Big 12 in 1996. Nolan Cromwell During his freshman season, Cromwell showed his skills as free safety, earning a starting role in the Liberty Bowl. He also started as free safety his sophomore year. But his real breakthrough came in his junior year. KU Coach Bud Moore brought in the wishbone offense and moved Cromwell over to quarterback. It was a bold move that paid off. That year he broke several KU, Big Eight and NCAA records for rushing by a quarterback. Cromwell's speed and agility earned him the nickname, "Ransom Rambler." Playing under Coach Johnny Majors, Dorsett became the first college back to run for 1,000 or more yards four seasons and the first to gain more than 1,500 yards three years. He established an all-time NCAA record of 6,082 yards. His best season as a senior saw him running for 1,948 yards and 21 touchdowns. Chris Doleman He was a star linebacker and defensive end for the Pitt Panthers from 1982 to 1984. He ended his career at Pitt with 25 sacks which was good for third all-time at the time of his departure. That total still ranks sixth in Pitt annals. Hugh Green http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vau...3/33/index.htm A three-time All American and a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, Green is the most dominant defensive player in college football history. He was only 6-2 and 220 pounds, but was so quick and agile, opposing tackles rarely had a solution to the pass-rushing phenom. Green finished his brilliant Panther career with 441 tackles, 53 sacks.
