    ECHL?

One thing about 11 that bothered me is if you had signed draft picks that weren't quite good enough to play in the AHL they just sat scratched and gained no experience at all. With the much deeper Be A Gm mode EA has been working on over the last few years I think it's time for the ECHL to make an appearance in order for you to have somewhere to put everybody you sign.

Plus I really just want to play as the Aces.

Finally! I use to work in the ECHL... loved every minute of it. Unfortunately after having one of the best years in point totals for a team in ECHL history our team folded. Go Texas Wildcatters!!!

Yeah it would be nice, don't know if there have been licensing or what but hopefully it will be there for '13. Lots of good memories here from going to Chiefs games with my family.

          Re: ECHL?

It's nothing against the ECHL, but if I place myself in EA's shoes, my way of thinking would be that the ECHL would come after the NCAA as far as league I would put in the game.

NCAA (just like CHL) is a pipeline for the NHL teams and would make a lot of sense to put in the game now that you can start your carreer in the CHL at 15-16 years old.

On the other hand, some would say that : "If they put leagues in Europe we don't care about, why not the ECHL?" Again, I guess it's a marketing thing to get the people in Europe more interested has they can play with teams within their country.

ECHL would make sense too, but I don't expert EA to deal with the ECHL anytime soon.

One major difference between the ECHL and NCAA is the licensing. Granted, EA would have to secure the ECHL license, but they already have the PHPA license. That license is one more thing that's out of the way. Lets also not forget that the NCAA (reportedly) isn't the easiest to deal with.

I hope they eventually secure the ECHL. For depth purposes, but also because I moved to Cincinnati a couple years ago and like going to Cyclones games.

I think the ECHL is long overdue. A lot of AHL guys played in the ECHL. Our star goalie from the Texas Wildcatters Anton Khudobin played for the Houston Aeroes and even saw NHL time. Posting his first shutout... a 4-0 win for the Minnesota Wild against Vancouver. The Boston Bruins traded for him last year. He is now on the Providence Bruins.

              The players ARE relevant.

The first thing I said in my answer was to put yourself in EA's shoes, not in mine! Want to talk about a guy from the ECHL who made it? Take a look at Michael Ryder and what he did over is carreer. It's enough to say that the ECHL can be a springboard for some. I never put that in doubt, I'm just saying that for EA, it's about selling more copies and I'm sure they don't see the ECHL making them earn that more cash.

As far as licensing, I understand and it's a fact that NCAA might not be an easy negociating partner. Still, put the NCAA in the game, and you'll attract many americans (who don't give a damn about CHL but would do about their U) to buy the game. In that matter, it's all coming down to cash it will cost versus cash it will bring.

                  Re: ECHL?

I'm not 100% sure on this but I believe the reason the ECHL is not in the game is because of the players association. I read that somewhere and I don't remember all the details but the gist of it was it was because of the ECHL players contracts.

Anyways, even if EA doesn't have the license to put the actual ECHL players into the game, they could still use the ECHL teams and add those. What I'd like to see them do, is add the ECHL and just rename all of the players and make them fully editable, not only with attribute edits, but with name and jersey # edits. That way, the gaming community could rehash the rosters the same way that we annually do for MLB: The Show. i.e. OSFullMinors roster set.

I've been begging EA to put the ECHL in for quite some time now. Being from Toledo, I've been going to watch ECHL when the Storm were around and now the Walleye. I guess I'm one of the 5% or so that would rather see the ECHL then the NCAA.

ECHL uses the same association as the AHL PHPA. Don't see that being the issue. I am all for all the leagues in the game but he NCAA has more effect on the real world NHL than the ECHL. Players in the ECHL are for the most part not looking at ever taking an NHL shift. It has happened with guys like Kevin Dahl but its pretty rare. Once a player drops to the ECHL they aren't considered a very good prospect. The exception to this is goalies. Some very good goalies will start that low. NCAA players are much more frequently making the NHL and would be a more valuable addition. However not being able to use names or likeness is kind of a pain in the ***.

Does anyone know if they added any new leagues to the game this year? I know I'm probably in the minority, but I enjoy playing with the European teams to switch it up and keep it fresh sometimes.

I think they've added at least one league a year. I hope they didn't stop this year.

I'm from Toledo too, and I also think the addition of the ECHL would be a plus. I am torn though between the NCAA and ECHL, because there is also a strong hockey tradition at nearby Bowling Green State University.I just don't see why they can't add them both.

It seems like the developers add a new league each year. Last year it was the CHL, before that it was the addition of the AHL and before that it was some of the Euro Leagues. This year they've added a Legends Team which most people won't care about, but at least it seems to continue the pattern of adding more leagues/players each year. Let's just hope they have taken stock of how many great players (i.e. Tim Thomas) have come up through the ECHL pipeline. Maybe for NHL 13 we'll finally get the ECHL and/or the NCAA.

I wouldn't hold out too much hope for College Hockey teams to be added into the game any time soon though. I get the impression that the NCAA institution is all about the almighty $ and would probably demand 50% of EA's sales revenue for games sold.

I'd love to have the ECHL, the NCAA, the KHL, all of em. I think a large deterrent is simply disk space for all the art/sound/player files that would go along with these new leagues.

Personally, I'd be very satisfied if they even just added a generic "low-minors" to the roster moves so that we could at least get the players some experience, and to give the AHL teams some players to call up in the event of injuries.

Anything to clear out the ridiculously large UFA pools during dynasty!
