Concussion proof helmets

Hey whats up guys long time viewer of the forums, my first post.

The question popped into my head while watching a Division 1 high school game briefly on TV thats at Gillette Stadium. I have been a big football fan my whole life. It just grinds my gears as to why a good ammount NFL players still use the old stanard style helmets. It's pratically mandatory for College and High School, why not the NFL?

I don't understand why an NFL player would want to use a stanard one. When I was a senior in High School back in 2008 my school finally started getting the Revolution ones, and man there was a huge difference. They were like wearing a pillow on your head they were really that comfortable. I just don't understand why NFL players choose not to use something that can prevent concussions better then the old style ones.

Re: Concussion proof helmets

It's all about the padding, not so much the helmet style

Re: Concussion proof helmets

Same thing in motorcross helmets. Not every helmet is equal in fit. I could wear certain helmets while they were too tight on my friends temples where his were too loose for certain parts of my head.

And theres no such thing as concussion proof.

This. Vick, Eli Manning and someone else are testing a new helmet this year... and Vick has had a concussion.

If it were this easy they would have been mandatory already.

Re: Concussion proof helmets

A concussion proof helmet would be soft outside as well. It wouldn't look as good on television, but if they really wanted head injuries gone, they would add padding outside the hard shell.

Re: Concussion proof helmets

You can go the Steve Wallace route and wear a helmet in a helmet.

Re: Concussion proof helmets

it's weird that we hear about concussions so much more in the nfl than nhl when the game/speed of hockey seems to have so much more velocity.
